I am looking for info on my ancestor Sara Calhoun Robinson Morris.
SARA CALHOUN was "a cousin" of famous JOHN C CALHOUN -politician and
Vice President. She supposedly taught music and was highly educated. The
family originally came from Ireland, were slaveowners and had land
property (in GA or SC or both).
The Calhouns had family friends from "back home" meaning Ireland named
the Dulaneys.
SARA CALHOUN married a doctor named Walter Robinson. He set up private
practice with a business partner, Dr. (?)Morris. Dr. Walter Robinson
was a landowner and was reportedly a kind and gentle man who had a few
household slaves and some parcel of land. Dr. Walter and Sarah C.
Robinson had three children -possibly born in GA:
Mary (aka Minnie), Emma (my gggrandmother), and Walter John.
Dr. Walter Robinson died early and suddenly. After much coercing Sara
later remarried his business partner Dr. Morris and had two more
children JIMMIE and FANNIE MORRIS. They lived in GA, LA, then TX.
The three Robinson children went to live with the family friends the
Dulaneys in NE Texas. It was said that Dr. Morris was very cruel and
abused the children, the slaves, and spent the money left to him and
Sara. They had to leave town and moved to Louisiana (handwritten
documents- not proven yet). The two Morris children eventually lived
and died in Texas (handwritten documents- not proven yet).
Anybody with any knowledge of these Calhouns or Robinsons or Dulaneys
-or even Dr. Morris-- I would love to talk with. Please post and email
me to share information. Thanks.

Your message to the Calhoun message board caught my eye. I have done some
research on my husband's Calhoun ancestors and have a story somewhat similar
to yours. A deceased cousin of my husband wrote the following in his
research on the family:
The Calhoun family are descendants of the Scottish clan known as Calquhoun.
It is a family legend that three Calhoun brothers came from Scotland to
America at a date that is uncertain. As was common to that time, they became
separated, and owing to the lack of facilities for communication, they lost
track of one another.
One of the brothers made his home on the south shore of Lake Ontario, in
Wayne County, New York, on what was later known as the Ridge Road. The
brother was the father of Joel Calhoun. When another brother, John Calhoun,
an officer during the Revolutionary period, was sent to old Fort Oswego to
inspect it, he heard of another Calhoun family and sent word that he would
like to meet them to see if they could trace any relationship. Our ancestor,
being radically opposed to John''s political views, refused to visit him and
so perhaps lost the opportunity to learn more of the Calhoun Family.
Joel had four brothers: Reuben, Levi, Charles and Paul, and two sisters,
Laura and the name of the other is not known. My husband is a decendant of
Joel.
Do any of these names match those in your research?
Pat Calhoun
