I don't know if what little I have will help, but my mother was Elizabeth Woodward Calhoun.
Her spouse was Wilroy Wade McPhail.
I never knew my grandparents, but my grandfather was Edward J.Calhoun. His wife was named Marion Woodward.

Attention Researchers with Robeson Co NC Connections!
July 10th, 2001: The Robeson County Heritage Book
Project is now officially off and going. Chairperson,
Treasurer and Committees where elected and additional
Criteria was established for the Heritage Book.
Information concerning criteria, examples of stories,
and how to prepare your stories, along with restrictions
and other details will be in the brochure. So far we have
received over 450 names and smailing addresses of folks
who interested in the Robeson County Heritage Book
Project. These names have come to us via the internet,
and especially by announcements such as this on the
various Rootswebs Mailing List [ROOTSWEBS, Thank
you so much!!!].
The Robeson County Heritage Book is being written
by hundreds of people who submit stories on their
Robeson County connected ancestors. If your
ancestors were from Robeson Co NC, then we
encourage you to submit stories on your Robeson
Co NC ancestors. If you do not put your family's
story in the book then no one else probably will,
and the end result is that they will be left out of the
publication. You don't have to be a Rhodes Scholar
to write a story. You can make your stories just as
simple, or just as elaborate, as you wish. You can
even take an obituary, add birth, death and marriage
dates, names of parents, list all children, and any
interesting facts and/or stories about your subject
that you would like to relay to other readers, and
especially to your children, grandchildren, great
grandchildren, etc⦠This book will be a treasure
to all, who are interested in Robeson County, her
families.
If you are interested in this project and would like to
be placed on the mailing list to receive a brochure
[brochures should be in from the publisher by late
July], then send us your name and smailing address
to the e-mail address listed below so we may send
you a Robeson County Heritage Book Brochure.
Please do not send any stories, etc⦠until after you
Have received your brochure.

No, but they could be related to our Adam's brother, Noah. We can't find anything on him. Possibly he was born around 1800-1815. Our Adam Calhoun owned property next to Samuel Calhoun, and Noah Calhoun. Adam moved to Whitfield County, GA about 1848-49. They were all in the Lumpkin 1840 census. Adam is in the Whitfield County 1850 census. We have always been told that we were from SC, and related to John C Calhoun of SC. Our family were supposedly working for him in a mine in Lumpkin County.
Hi Robert,
I have not been able to make any connections with other Calhouns since posting my previous message. My uncle-in-law's oldest known Calhoun ancestor is James Allen Calhoun. He was born in October 1859 in Lumpkin Co., GA. His parents may be John Calhoun (b ~1840 in GA) and Jane Sophrenia Grizzle (b~1840 in GA). They were married 20 Dec 1857 in Lumpkin Co., GA. I have no other clues to go on. Does any of this match up with your line?
Hey, we're related! It's hard to find another "Calhoun" who knows more than 2 generations back. I'm from Patricks line as well, and I remember my grandmother telling me about the indian raids and how some relative was taken as a small child and was made a member of the tribe and thats why there are Calhouns that are native-americans. My grandmother was Ruth Calhoun, daughter of Joseph A. Calhoun whose father William was a circuit preacher who founded over 100 churches in W. N.C. My mom is really into this and we would love to hear from you. She has the records going back to one Lord in Scotland who moved to Ireland and his family moved to S.C.. She also has an interesting thing about how Colquhoun originated from French, which would lead me to believe that our ancestor was a french supporter of Queen Mary. Anyway, please email me back and I can email you our family tree. Laura Esposito (I married me an Eye-talian)
Delores, I think you may be related to us! Email my mom at bcsunshine2(a)home.com or call her at 828-687-9966. She has all of our family records dating back to the 16th century and would know if you were one of the Haywwod county calhouns. She is seriously into this and would love to talk to you (or any other Calhoun). If she can figure out how to do it I'll have her post the family tree.Anyway, let us know. Laura
My husband's grandfather was Johnnie Calhoun Hollister, the middle name after his mother, Alice Calhoun. Alice married Edward Augustus Hollister around 1868. E.A. Hollister was from Louisiana so they may have been married there, but we believe they lived in East Texas, perhaps the Houston area. I have no further information on Alice Calhoun and would appreciate if anyone could help me find out more--thanks!!
Wilsie,
My ggggrandfather was Samuel Calhoun b 1788 Abbyville,NC d TX 1871 He was a
slave owner in Jones Co Ga. He brought 100 of his slaves with him when he moved
to an area around Madisonville Texas in 1845 along with his Son-in-law James A.
Cabiness.
I know that many slaves took the name of their owners. I do not have a lot of
information on Samuel before he came to Texas. He married an Elizabeth Finney,
she died in 1836 and is buried in GA. I have not researched his Georgia roots. I
do not know if this infomation gives you any leads, but I thought it could be
related.

I am looking for information on Hugh Calhoun and his wife
Nancy ?. Their daughter Elizabeth Calhoun born 1805 married
John Travis Thigpen JR. in North Carolina. Elizabeth and John moved to Washington Parish LA and died their. Nancy is also shown on a Washington Parish census living with a John Calhoun at age 70. Any information on Hugh or Nancy would
be helpful.
Thank You
I just sent a post about our new message boards -- I copied part of the
message from another list, and didn't notice until after I SENT the
post, that the "reply to" is set to MOMercer-L, a Missouri county list.
Please don't just click reply and then send. If you want to respond,
make sure OUR list name is up there in the Address box.
Sorry about that!
Valorie
Hi, everybody, it's been an exciting, exhausting couple of weeks. But
our new board is up, working fine, and if you haven't visited yet, come
take a peek. The one little oddity that I'm waiting for them to fix, is
that "gatewayed" messages sent to the list when someone posts on the
board, aren't well marked. Remember that many people will post to our
board, that would never join the list. So if you just answer a board
post *on the list* instead of clicking over to the board to answer, they
MAY never see your answer. As you know, I manage all these
Cowan/Colquhoun surname variants as a group to complement the Cowan and
Colquhoun lists. So here are all the relevant boards. Be sure to put
your favorites in My Favorites, so you can click right through!

What's New With The Rootsweb Message Boards
Message from the Ancestry Home Office
by Jake Gehring, Executive Producer
Wow, what a week it has been. The messages have really been flying. In
an effort to improve communication from Ancestry to you (and vice
versa), I
will be sending out a message every so often which addresses current
issues
on the Ancestry site. The Ancestry staff has received lots of questions
since
the merger of Ancestry.com and RootsWeb.com last summer, and I think
there's
a general need for our users to have regular information on Ancestry's
efforts to provide valuable services to the genealogical community.
I also want to make a few comments about our new message boards system
which was launched last week. We're grateful for the excellent feedback
many
of you have provided. The feedback has been generally positive when
addressing
the value of the combined datasets and the increased search
functionality.
However, I also recognize that any significant change requires some
getting used to and may create some temporary inconvenience and
frustration. I
would like to address some of the concerns we've heard from you, the
users.
...
There is some confusion about Ancestry's position regarding the
ownership of messages posted on the boards. Let me clarify by excerpting
from the Acceptable Use Policy, which reads, "When you post messages to
mailing
lists, message boards, and other facilities at Ancestry, those posts
remain
your property under copyright law." The same is true for those using the
message boards at Ancestry.com. In short, if you posted it, you own it.
As far as the message boards or any other Ancestry features are
concerned, if you're not happy, we're not happy. Please continue to give
us your comments and concerns at the Suggestions Message Board
