A couple of brief notes, now that the Rootsweb listservers seem to have settled down.
As a gift, I got my dad a Y-DNA kit a couple of years ago. It's quite exciting to see
some close matches come up. I noticed in the match-notification email of the lab who did
the work for him and interesting passage:
"Please remember to add your results to
www.Ysearch.org, the FTDNA
sponsored public database. On the right side of your personal page you
will see an explanation and a link for the upload."
So I visited
http://www.Ysearch.org and was impressed. You can search for genetic matches,
and search by last name. They say:
In order to allow people that have tested with the different companies to make their
results available for comparison, Family Tree DNA is offering Ysearch as a free public
service. We have added several tools that allow you to compare side-by-side different
users - the YsearchCompare - as well as generate a Genetic Distance\x{2122} Report, and
many other features, including the upload of GEDCOM files.
I've added this site to my link blog post about DNA & Genealogy research:

Right now I'm listening to a fascinating radio show about family stories, and
untangling the truth or fiction of them. By Monday you should be able to listen on the web
or download the story from
Audible.com. Or perhaps your local public radio station (or one
streaming on the web) will allow you to hear it real time.

My station, for instance, transmits over the radio and the web at 11 am my time Saturday:

http://www.kplu.org/ at 1 pm on Sunday.
I hope the end of summer is delightful for those of you in the northern hemisphere, and
the hints of spring the same for those of you 'down under'.
