Glad to hear from all so far.
I'm still very interested in the Cale line, but really haven't anything new
to add.
My line starts with William Allen Cale, born 30 Dec 1800 in Augusta County,
Virginia. His known brother was Preston B. Cale. Preston married twice, the
second wife being Mary M. Funkhouser. They were married in 1827, still in
Augusta County. There is tradition that there was a third brother.
William Allen Cale married 1825 to Mary (Polly) Baylor, in Augusta County.
There was also an Ann, who married by 1824 to Jacob Baylor, and who was
identified in Augusta County records as an heir of Peter Cail--which gives
some hint as to her ancestry. As a spouse of a Baylor--as was William
Allen--they may be siblings. However, they may have been cousins of some
sort. William Allen Cale named a son David. For the life of me I really
can't figure out how William Allen Cale or his brother Preston B. Cale fit
in with the other Cales running around Augusta County in those days. I've
looked for (and failed to find any) Preston-Cale or Allen-Cale connections.
I've even wondered whether the "B" of Preston's middle name hinted at a
previous Baylor connection.
William Allen and brother Preston B. Cale moved to Edgar County, Illinois
about 1835. William Allen Cale died there in 1855. His daughter Mary Jane
(1830-1883) married John Huffman, and they moved to Kansas, along with a
couple of her brothers. John and Mary Jane (Cale) Huffman were my great
great grandparents.
Good Luck to you all, and feel free to write if you want more details (or if
you have anything to add!).
Wendell Huffman
