I doubt that anyone can tell you whether your information, beyond the Social
Security application, is correct. It does sound plausible.
For verification, you might want to look at the census enumerations up to
1930. From 1850 onward, these show all the members of a household and most
give relationship to the head of household. These are available at local
Family History Centers and online at
www.Ancestry.com. (Subscription fee

Parkison's father was John Cales b:1817; his mother was Kesiah Meadows
b:1815. John's physical description in 1877 was "5' 9 3/4", 168 lbs.,
Dark
hair, "Yellowish" complexion, Grey Eyes". John left Monroe Co., (now,
West)
Virginia about 1841-42 and settled for a time in Licking Township,
Blackford County, Indiana with Catharine Meadows. (See 1850 census.). By
1857, the family was in Beaver Twp, Iroquois Co., Illinois.
As one follows this family backwards in time, the surname has spelling
variants including "Cale" (no s), "Cailles" (a "frenchified"
version),
"Cail", "Kail", etc. I believe the spelling in the original German to
have
been "Keel" or "Kehl". A broad, though not in depth, view of the
family is
at
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~cale2cales/ A family tree is
posted at
http://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=ralphtaylor33&I11.x=25&...
(You'll find Archibald Kales & Nancy Wyant there.)
As to why not talk about his family, there were some scandals associated
with John. These are not appropriate for posting to the list.
Good hunting,
-ralph

My gg-grandfather George William Cales whom married Elsie Ellen Goldstrom,
was born
in Watseka, IL. I have a copy of his SS application, and it list
his parents as John William Cales and Melissa Alice Harvey. From what I have
been able to find, John William Cales, parents are Parkison Cales and
Catherine Reynolds. Melissa Harvey parents as Joseph henry Harvey and Nancy
C Cales (b:3/27/1856) who's parents are Archibald Cales and Nancy C Wyant.
I would like to know if this information is correct. I was told my my
g-aunt that
my gg-grandfather didn't talk about his family. I don't know
why.
Thanks.
