Greetings all,
The following is the text of a query I plan to submit to the "Climbing
The Family Tree" newspaper column in Mobile, AL.
Seeking information about the ancestors of James Monroe CALE who was
born on 30 Dec 1910 in Chatom, Washington County, Alabama or 30 Dec
1912 in Chunchula, Mobile County, Alabama. He was a partner of Ana
Teresa Mendives Esquivel circa 1933 in Panama and married Lucille
Smitherman on 11 Feb 1938 in New Orleans, Orleans Parish, Louisiana. He
died on 3 Feb 1996 in Mobile, Mobile County, Alabama and is buried in
Turnerville Cemetery, Chunchula, Mobile County, Alabama.
Jamess father was William Alexander CALE, born on 1 Mar 1870 in
Seaboard ?, Washington County, Alabama. Jamess mother was Sarah Eliza
HARRIS, daughter of (______) HARRIS and (______) JONES.
Research: According to my mother's notes: William was apparently an
ophan and his father or grandfather possibly fought in the Indian and
Civil War. Berry CALE witnessed William's marriage. William signed his
name W. M. CALE.
Alabama land patents have been located for Will CALE, dated 25 Oct 1897,
Dan CALE, dated 22 May 1899, and Berry CALE, dated 07 Dec 1899 all in
Washington Co., AL.
Will and Dan CALE were neighbors in Sims Chapel, Washington Co., AL
during the 1900 census. Berry and Dan CALE were neighbors on Mt. Vernon
Road, Mobile Co., AL during the 1910 census. Will CALE was living in
Chunchula, Mobile Co., AL during the 1920 census. Berry, Dan and William
appear to be brothers since they lived in the same general area and were
born within four years of each other.
