A couple of notes have appeared regarding James F. CALDWELL which happens
to be my name. However it ain't me they are trying to reach in this
subject
I am James Forga CALDWELL a descendant of Andrew Forgey COLDWELL whose
grandfathers were Andrew FORGEY and Capt Thomas COLDWELL (of rev war unit
in NC) that obtained personal property, led formation of a Presbyterian
Church (and its cemetery) and raised children in Hawkins Co TN late 17
early 1800's.
A.F. COLDWELL above, b 25 Nov 1807 d 1849 in KY (shortly after returning
from Mexico City Mex where he had led a group of Laurel co men as Mex War
army group. There was no battle but many died of illnesses acquired in Mex
and traveling down and back.) His widow, Francis (JONES) COLDWELL m Gen
Jarvis JACKSON of Laurel Co KY in 1850/51.
A.F.C. had a grandson Andrew Forga, who shifted COLDWELL to CALDWELL (the
general spelling in KY but THIS A.F. CALDWELL's bro William Peyton
who moved to TX retained the COLDWELL spelling.
I am James Forga CALDWELL but my direct cousin, grandson of my great uncle
W.P.C is Criss COLDWELL.
A group of CALDWELLs centered the 1746 formation of Old Lunenburg co VA
but a history of the area states that officially its Clerk would never
spell CALDWELL anything but COLDWELL.
Of course some of the families in Eng/Scot/Ire used COLDWELL there and
retained it here. We can't yet be sure what COLDWELL lines in US are
absolutely accurate, which may have shifted from CALDWELL and which have
shifted to CALDWELL.
To close, I want to mention that a several hundred attendance
CALDWELL REUNION
occurs annually in a hall near I-75 at the north edge of
Corbin, KY
on Sat of the 4th of July weekend.
thus

Group primarily are descendants of the CALDWELLs who landed in Del 10 Dec
1727, passed through PA over 10 to 12 years and then developed an area in
South West VA and its North West area near and in the future West Va.
Active KY group largely descends from William CALDWELL b ca 1771 VA who
initiated and left a VA family (6 children) near/in WV and then moved to
Knox County KY where with a different wife he had 10 children.
Visitors also include COLDWELLs and CALDWELLs from other lines.
