I really need as much info as possible on the following family. If
anyone can help, I'd really appreciate it. I've been trying to find this
family for quite a while.
William W. Caldwell had 2 sons, Robert and Stephen. The family settled
in Franklin County, PA. William had emigrated from Ireland. They lived
near Green Castle in Franklin County. Stephen went south and nothing is
known of him after his leavetaking, but Robert resided on his father's
homestead on the Conocheaque Creek. He had five sons: John, James,
William, George, and Joseph and four Daughters: Margaret, Agnes, Mary
and Eliza. James3 (Robert2, Mr. A.1) married 28 Oct 1782 and in 1785
moved to Westmoreland County, PA, near Wallace's Fort, which was
situated near the Broad Fording on the Conemaugh. He brought his two
children over the Allegheny Mountains in what is called a creel, a
basket on either side of a pack horse. He had 6 sons and 3 daughters.
James had the following children --------------
ROBERT - JOHN - JAMES - WILLIAM WADDLE - BENJAMIN - JOSEPH - MARY -
MARGARET - ISABEL! After James left Franklin County, his father moved to
Short Creek, Ohio County, WV where he built a mill and lived for some
time before moving to Washington County and settling on Brush Run, about
7 miles from Canonsburg. His sons William and Joseph returned with him
to Pennsylvania. John stayed at Short Creek and George moved to
Northeastern Ohio. Robert Caldwell and his sons were blacksmiths. In
1826 James moved to a farm near Punxsutawney, Jefferson County, PA and
he died in Punxsutawney 19 Dec 1836. His fourth son, William Waddle
Caldwell left home and got married. About 5 years after this, in April
of 1816 he moved to Indiana, PA. William Waddle Caldwell was born about
1789 in Westmoreland County, PA and died 8 Jul 1856. The wife of James
Caldwell was probably Jennet (a.k.a. Jane) Graham of Franklin County. If
you have any information to add or correct, please e-mail me at
