Dear Caldwell folks: I am always jotting things down dealing with the
families I am searching and going back through my notes I came across
the following info that may help somebody:
1. A lady named Grace Caldwell wrote me April 28, 1975 (her address then
was 933 N. Davis, Sulphur Springs, Texas). I don't know if she is still
living. Probably not. Anyway her letter stated the following:
"Knowing I was interested in researching the family of my ggf. David
Parker Caldwell (b. 1801 in N. Carolina and d. 1862 in Dresden, Tenn.),
a friend of mine gave me your address and request concerning John and
gs. Robert Caldwell.
"My ggf had three brothers, Robert, Timothy and John. These brothers
came to Montgomery Co., [TN?] and then my ggf. settled in Dresden,
Tenn. These brother's father, David C., lived in Iredell County, N.
Carolina. His father was Robert who emigrated from County Derry,
Ireland to Greencastle, PA and later moved to Huntington Co.
"My father, Luther W., came to S.S., Texas in 1880 to begin his career
as a doctor, so I know little about his people..."
2. Rogersville, Hawkins Co., Tennessee cemetery: Anthony Caldwell (born
in VA) b. 1764, died 1832 and wife, Elizabeth Akin Caldwell "Christians
and patriots in revolution"
My line is a John Caldwell who traveled from Prince Edward Co., VA in
1806 and died in Montgomery Co., TN leaving a will in 1821 and a
newspaper obituary. However, there was nothing about his ancestry. I
keep gleaning bits and pieces in hopes of putting something together
some day.
Good luck to all Caldwells.
