Hello Everyone,
Thank you for all your responses about the Coat of Arms. I apologize
for taking so long but here are the images. Merry Christmas & Happy New
Year to you all!
The images were taken from the book "The Caldwells Came to Texas" by
H.C.K. Caldwell, Genealogist. The book was a gift from him to the Dallas
Public Library Genealogical Section. The first image is of the original
Coat of Arms for Caldwell units. "This was very brightly colored near
the neck and on the breast plate. It could easily be seen in battle and
denote one as Caldwell from Coldstream, Yorkshire, England".
"There were two other Coat of Arms registered. These were designed
and registered under the name Caldwel, (one L)". These two Coats of
Arms are the second image, but it appears that one is for Caldwel and
one is for Coldwel. The first was registered in Ireland. The second was
registered in Boston, (per the book-probably in the Colonies of
America).
I also have an excerpt from another book in the Dallas Library,
"Caldwell Family of France, Scotland, Ireland and America", that gives
this description: "The arms of the family were described as Azure, three
tops of wells in masonry, or, crest-out of a ducal coronet or cubit arm
ppr. grasping a cross of Calvary gu.. Motto-Sapere Ande (Dare to be
wise)".
I/m sending this to the entire group instead of to each of you who
responded since I can send one email to everyone rather than trying to
send a separate message to each person. Again, thank you for your
patience and Merry Christmas to you all.
Ruth Foster
