RE the two "COLWELL" posts. My grandmother, Belle Colwell Ferguson, always
told me her name was COLWELL. Local records in Tarrant Co TX show it as
COLDWELL and CALDWELL. I realize our forbears were careless about spelling.
So, for what it's worth -- I'm up against one of those stone walls regarding
my ggm's parents. I have a picture. On the back it says "deliver to Mrs. Wm.
Colwell, --illegible-- Dallas Co TX.
If anyone can latch onto this thread, I'd be most grateful. They were there.
They had two daughters. I know about them. NFI.

Hey Paul!
Do you have some dates for your Belle, and maybe some other
names? My Caldwell line (from James of NH, b. ca. 1695)
has Williams in it! They also went by Caldwell, Colwell,
Calwell Cadwell over the years, and different branches
adopted different forms! It was a nightmare researching all
of the variants of that name! They would write it Caldwell,
and pronounce is Cadwell!
There has been a lot of work done on the descendancy in this
line, by Connie Gilbert of this list and others! The
closest I could find to Belle is Belinda, and the furthest
south traced members of the family went is Tennessee, but
who knows!
