A goodly number of Caldwells and a couple of Coldwells landed in KY. To give
an example, here are a few that married into my Gosney Family Tree:
1. Minnie Jane Jenner (5/29/1869 Campbell Co., KY - 12/31/1937)
mar. Edwin Wayne Caldwell on 10/27/1897
2. Anna Mary Strode (5/29/1875 - ??)
mar. Clement Caldwell in 1899
3. Margaret Ciphronia/Sophronia Gosney (1/16/1838 Campbell Co., KY - aft.
1871)
mar. John Jackson "J.J." Yelton (8/30/1832 - ??)
(son of Phillip H. & Hester Caldwell Yelton)
bef. 1871
4. Elizabeth H. "Betsy" Gosney (6/9/1774 Culpeper Co. or Berkley Co, VA -
12/8/1856 Pendleton Co., KY)
Betsy's grandson James Caldwell, said the land in VA where the Gosneys settled
was surveyed by George Washington and Betsy claimed she remembered G. W. being
at her fathers home when she was a small girl and that she sat on his lap.
mar. William John Caldwell, Sr. (8/10/1773 Berkley Co., VA - 4/26/1840)
(son of Alexander & Esther Caldwell)
on 3/26/1794 (or 3/26/1799 per Wm. Caldwell Bible - MP)
in Berkley Co., VA
5. Andrew J. "Andy" Caldwell (2/5/1836 Pendleton Co., KY - 12/11/1919 Kenton
Co., KY)
J in Andrews name may stand for Jackson. He was born during the 2nd
administration of President Andrew Jackson and the Caldwell family were
staunch Democrats.
Andrew J. Caldwell enlisted in Bourbon Co., KY. His military route was
Jeffersonville, Liberty Hill, Sandy, Princeton, and Bluestone. He was
captured as a prisoner of War on 10/7/1863 at Farmington, TN. Released on the
Oath of Allegiance on 1/26/1865.
mar. Amanda "Mandy" Ellen Loomis (2/7/1847 Kenton Co., KY - 8/6/1918
Covington, Kenton Co., KY)
(daug. of John Casey & Anna Mann Loomis)
This will give you a small idea of the intermarriage. Let me know if I can be
of any real help. Beth
