Greetings,
I am new to Caldwell research and here is my dilemma. Any advice?
I have a family legend that says that the Elizabeth Caldwell (b?,d?) who
married John Clendenin c. 1770 and lived/died in East Pennsboro Twp
(currently Silver Spring Twp), Cumberland County, PA was a sister to
Martha Calhoun, mother of John C. Calhoun. I've found that this is
incorrect since that Elizabeth was born in 1757 and died in S.C.
This John Clendenin family may have come to Cumberland County c. 1746 by
way of Lancaster County. John Clendenin was baptised in 1751 in
Cumberland County, PA and died in 1802 same place. His will mentions
wife Elizabeth (no last name) and children. They are both listed as
being buried in the Pine Hill Cemetery on the Huston family farm,
Cumberland County. Only two gravestones remain today at that cemetery
and neither are Clendenins.
Does anyone know of any Elizabeth Caldwell or Caldwell families that
could fit this scenario and I could research? The family was
Presbyterian.
Thanks, Mary Louise
