Hello Homer and Martha,
If your statement about Mary Alice Thankful Caldwell being the wife of Beverly
Mann is correct, then Mary Alice Thankful is the daughter of David
COldwell/CAldwell (spelled both ways in the county records) of Charlotte
County, VA; as evidenced in Charlotte County will book 1, page 189. There, in
an accounting of David's estate: "To Beverly Mann, his wife's
legacy...37.10.3". This entry is dated 1778.
David is the son of the John Caldwell, Presbyterian elder, who led a
settlement of Scotch-Irish to Brunswick/Lunenburg/Charlotte County in around
1740. David's will is dated 1765 and probated 1769 and names sons John,
David, William, Thomas, Robert, & James; daughters, Margaret, Sarah, Mary, &
Jane (or Jean); wife Mary. By way of a codicil, one can deduce that Thomas
died. Through other statements in subsequent deeds, it is clear that a number
of the named children moved to KY.
