Hello, Howie:
My great grandmother's name was Eliza Jane Caldwell - but it's not the same
one, because mine was born in 1835 !! Her parents were William Caldwell and
Sarah (McQuade). She married James Finlay. Interesting that the name is
Eliza, though. She had a daughter, Eliza Finlay, who was born in 1870, as
she appeared in the 1881 census as being age 11, a scholar.
Wonder if there is any connection ... would be interesting to see if you can
get back any further.

Subject: [CALDWELL-L] Caldwell Family - Scotland
I am beginning to research my family's history. I do not have any
prior
experience in conducting this type of research and I would appreciate any
guidance available from members of this group.
My father, James Caldwell, was born in the Dalmuir area of Clydebank,
Scotland in or around 1908. His father George was a pattern-maker in the
shipyards. His mother was Eliza.
I would appreciate any advice on how to go about tracing the family history
from this information.
My name is Howie Caldwell and I live in Vancouver, British Columbia
(Canada).
Thank you for taking the time to deal with my request.
Howie Caldwell
