Hello everyone!
I am appealing for help from those of you researching in Alabama and Mississippi.
My gg grandfather, Andrew W. Caldwell, left Georgia sometime after 1844, and by 1849-1850
was in Kosciusko, Mississippi. He had two children born there in 1849, then left between
1850 & 1854, and by 1854 he was SOMEWHERE in AL. He was traveling because of ill
health, and hoped a change of climate would help him. I have read that in the towns he
lived in; in Alabama and Mississippi, he held positions of importance in the towns while
he was there. I am trying to find out where in Alabama he lived for those few years. He
had a daughter born there in Alabama around 1854, and then by 1860, he was back home in
Georgia.
Have any of you come across my Caldwell in your searches in Mississippi and Alabama? His
wife's name was Sarah Matthews Caldwell, and he was often referred to as A. W.
Caldwell. They were of the Methodist faith. A. W. Caldwell and two of his brothers later
went on to become Methodist Preachers in Georgia.
Any help would be appreciated. I have wondered if he had any relations in those states,
that prompted him to travel there.
Thank you,
Lucy Caldwell
