Hello Caldwell Researcher,
My Joseph Benjamin CALDWELL ( b 1841 Barnwell Dist.., SC/ d 1911
Talladega Co., AL) married (29 Mar 1864) Malinda Jane HAYES in Talladega
County, Alabama.
Federal censuses indicate that his father was born in Ireland and his
mother in Scotland. CSA service record indicates that he enlisted in
1861 in Talladega Co., AL. I have no information, other than his birth,
prior to 1861. ( However I have not extended my search to SC, yet)
Hope we can connect our Caldwells.
Pauline

I'm new to the list and realize this focuses mostly on SE US
Caldwells.
However, I have been wondering if anyone has been able to sort out the
Caldwells originating in Ireland and Scotland. My father did
extensions
research on my family history, and traced the Caldwell line back to:
James Caldwell
b. c1685 Scotland?
m. c1705 Hannah (last name unknown) probably in Ballymere, Antrim
County,
Ireland
d. c1753 Hudson or WIndham, NH
(His decendants that I have listed stayed within NH (Hudson, Windham,
Hollis, and Dublin, NH), and then seemed to move to Northfield, MA,
and
also Windsor, VT. Finally ending in Springfield, MA.)
>From looking at a couple other family trees (that 'end' in the SE
USA) on
the internet, I've found very similar names and dates to this James
Caldwell and his close relatives - but nothing that is EXACTLY the
same.
My imagination might lead me to conclude that one of the Caldwells
sailed
off to New England, and the others went to VA or thereabouts.
Does anyone have any evidence that might help sort this out? Also,
if
there is anyone on the list with Caldwells that may be the same as I
described above, I'd be happy to hear from you and compare notes.
I could put more information in this message, but wasn't entirely sure
of
the etiquette of this list yet. Unfortunately, I don't have the
details in
a format suitable to be sent via or posted onto the net.
Thanks in advance for any help
Sincerely,
Richard James Caldwell
