Hi, I'm looking for the family of Nancy Johnson and Jake Goad (not sure if Jake is the
right name).
Nancy is suppose to be full or part Cherokee indian, they had at least four children:
1. Joseph b.1854 in Tenn.m. ???? to ??? d. 1911/12 in Ft. Worth Tarrent county Texas
2. John Thomas Goad b.1 Sept.1856 in Indiana m. 30 may 1886 in Stephenville Erath county

she d.19 March 1952 in Los Angeles L.A. county California, he d.27 Sept. 1918 in Gordon

3. James Aaron Goad b.1860 in Indiana m. 23 Nov.1894 to Annie ? Willis in Youngsport Bell
county Texas d.29 March 1926 in Florence, Texas
4. Amanda J. Goad b.? June 1865 in Paris Lamar county Texas m.1 July 1879 in Belton Bell
county Texas to William Hansen Kelly, d.ca.1960 in Bell county Texas.
Jake came home on leave during the Civil War in a sickly condition. After his leave was
over he left to return to his duty and was not heard from again. No one seems to know if
he died in the war or from his sickness. The family moved to Arkasas from Indiana, where
Jake enlisted in the Confederate Army.
Nancy and the children moved to Paris Lamar county Texas, where she married Samuel
Caldwell b. 1813 in ?? Pennsylvania (spelled Calwell on their marriage certificate) on 11
Jan.1867. They are listed in the 1870 census of Lamar county Texas. Nancy and Samuel had
at least one daughter named Armithia (Mittie) b.? Dec.1872 and is said to have had three
sets of twins that didn't survive. They moved to the vicinity of Youngsport Bell
county Texas in 1879. I have no information on the deaths of Samuel ? Caldwell and Nancy
Johnson at this time.
Joseph ? Goad Married late in life, his wife's name, dates and where she died are
unknown to me at this time. He had a step-son (name and dates unknown at this time).
Joseph was killed, when he fell down a grain elevator shaft at either the Smith or Kimball
Grain company in Ft. Worth, Texas. He also worked as a Sheriff, Deputy Sheriff or on a
Police force (believed somewhere in Texas).
John Thomas Goad was born in the Wabash Valley of Indiana. John was working on the Mahoney
farm when he met and married Marth "Mattie" Jane Coleman in 1886. She was the
daughter of William R. Coleman and Amanda Jane Bowlington. After her death and funeral in
1952 she was brought back to Texas and buried in the Wheeler Cemetery, located in Wheeler,
Texas. John died of heart disease in 1918 and is buried at Gordon, Texas in the Doty
cemetery.
They had 13 children:

James Aaron Goad was born 28 February, 1860-61 in Indiana. He is 9 years old on the Lamar
county Texas census, taken 8 August 1870. He married Annie ? Willis on 23 November, 1894
in Youngsport Bell county Texas. James died 29 March in Florence, Texas and is buried in
the Live Oak Cemetery near Youngsport, Texas. Annie ? Willis born 5 May 1876, was the
daughter of ____Willis and Hanna House. She died 16 April 1963 and was buried, along with
several of her children, in the Live Oak Cemetery near Youngsport, Texas.James Aaron Goad
and Annie ? Willis had 11 children, all born in Bell county Texas.

the son of John Martin Barfield (Barefield) and Armithia (Mittie) Caldwell(Calwell)(my

Amanda J. Goad was born in June of 1865 in Paris Lamar county Texas. Amanda
"Mandy" was married 1 July 1879 to William Hansen "Hanse" Kelley b.?
Feb. 1858 in ??? Alabama, son of Pleasant Kelley d.?? 1935 near Youngsport Bell county
Texas. She died possibly 1960s around the same location. They also lived in Sugar Loaf
Bell county Texas, which is now part of Fort Hood Bell county Texas. They were both buried
there and later moved to the City Cemetery of Killen Bell county Texas.
They had 7 children:
