Our CALDWELL line appears to come from North Carolina and begins with
information we found regarding DAVID CALDWELL born about 1766. He was
a wagonmaker and found on the LUMPKIN COUNTY GEORGIA census
information living with his son JOSEPH CALDWELL born abt. 1813 in
South Carolina. David married Sarah ? who was born in South Carolina.
Joseph married SARAH DISHAROON born in Lumpkin County Georgia about
1820. Joseph and Sarah had 8 children, Solena, Mary, Lucinda, Amanda,
Esther, Frances, Joseph N., and Andrew. Haven't found that this is
confirmed it just appeared to be correct from census information that
another son of David Caldwell was MEREDITH B.CALDWELL born about 1825
also in South Carolina. He married WINNEY O. WOODY born 1830 in
Lumpkin County. Since Lumpkin was part of Cherokee County in North
Georgia up until the removal of the Cherokee indians, family legend
says that both Sarah Disharoon and Winney Woody were Cherokee, being
born before the removal. Supposedly no white man was allowed to live
on those lands before the removal. Meredith is our Caldwell
connection, his son John Moody Caldwell born 1848, married Margaret E.
Stancil born 1855 in South Carolina (also thought to be Cherokee).
Their daughter Mary Eva Caldwell born 1878 married into our THOMAS
line in 1897. If anyone has further information would dearly love to
close the gaps.
