Am not sure about your CALDWELL line, but have been in contact with a DEBBIE
HAMILTON who lives in Canada and has mentioned that her branch of them came
out of Nova Scotia as well. Will have to lookup her internet server and give
you her
screenname. She has sent me CALDWELL material that has hers connected to the
Adair County, KY, Columbia group ( JOHN CALDWELL, JR. ) line that came out of
the Cub Creek CALDWELL Settlement located near the present-day Phenix,
Charlotte County, VA (then Lunenberg Co.) This JOHN CALDWELL, JR. was a son
of the JOHN & MARGARET PHILLIPS CALDWELL who originally came from Lancaster
Co., PA to VA about 1738 to 1742 when this Settlement was formed.
This DEBBIE HAMILTON connects to these same CALDWELLS in KY and back to
VA, then to PA, and about 1727 when JOHN & MARGARET PHILLIPS CALDWELL first
came to America thru DE from Derry County, Ireland. I believe I go thru the
youngest of their children, the REV. JAMES CALDWELL who was a Presbyterian
Minister who was murdered by the British in 1781 in Elizabeth Point, NJ and
for whom Caldwell, NJ is named and where he is buried. Since his Father is
already dead by the time, my WILLIAM gets out of the RR War in 1783, he
(WILLIAM) musters out in Trenton, NJ, I believe so he can see where his
Father is buried and
may have stayed long enough to help settle his Father's affairs. I believe
he returns
to VA and follows this Uncle, JOHN CALDWELL, JR., to Columbia, Adair Co., KY
where my WILLIAM came about 1809 and lived until until the time he died,
7-5-1825.
If you can get connected to this line of CALDWELLS, then you may be able to go
back about 15 to 20 generations of them in Ireland. The CALDWELLS were in
various Irish counties - Derry, Donegal, Fermangaugh, Antrim, and Tyrone
Counties,
all Northern Ireland in Ulster. They were of Scotch-Irish descent and
Presbyterian.
The Cub Creek CALDWELL Settlement in VA formed the Presbyterian Cub Creek
Church by this group of CALDWELLS. There are other Settlements in VA - one at
Ft. Defiance near Staunton, VA in Augusta County, and another at Sinking
Creek,
Craig County, VA.
There is a CALDWELL Site on Geocities that I will have to look up for you.
Hope some of this proves helpful to you.
