Babs, If you could send me any info you have that would be very helpful. I
believe John Caldwell and Margaret Phillips had a son named John who married
Jane Kennedy. I am a descendant of that line and am interested in any info
you might be able to provide. John and Jane had several children one of
which was Anthony who I believe is my ancestor, unfortunately everything I
have on Anthony has different dates but most say he was married to Elizabeth
Aikens which I know is fact, I would just like to pin down the correct birth
date and any other helpful info.

Ms. Finley, I am related to the Caldwell family of Cub Creek. My
line is
through their (John Caldwell m. Margaret Phillips) son Robert m. Mary
Logan.
Thomas was a brother to Robert.
My research indicates Thomas was m. to Mary Parks she may have been a
sister
to Rebecca Parks who married William Caldwell brother of both Robert
and
Thomas.
I have some information on this family, but would love to have more! I am
interested in more than a compilation of names and dates...I like to learn
information which places the individuals in historical context (for example
did they participate in the French & Indian War?) and information which
sheds
light on them as individuals. I am not concerned whether they are
"famous
or
infamous" as long as I can learn things which give them shape,
context, and
color. Finding out this level of information takes much more in depth
research and much more time!
For example, learning my family was Presbyterian was a surprise to me since
my Grandfather was a staunch Baptist, as was his Father. My research
turned
up my Greatgreat Grandfather, William Philpot Curran Caldwell, son of
Samuel
Caldwell and Ann Balch and he evidently was considered a disapated
young
man
until he met his wife who converted him to the
Baptist faith. Thereupon, he became a minister in that church. Learning
of
our Presbyterian roots sent me into studying the history of the
Presbyterian
church in the United States and its tremendous influence on American
History.
From there, I delved into the history of the Scotch Irish in our
country.
All of which gives me a picture of the type of people my relatives may have
been and the influences on their lives. But it is a slow tedious method!
However, it is more interesting!
I am not as advanced as you probably are in my research, but if you ask me
specific questions I will do my best to answer. I do have in my notes that
Thomas had a son named John who married Ann Davis/ Finley (this either
indicates two wives with different last names, or possibly the name should
have been Ann Davis Finley ? another mystery to resolve. This son, John
died in 1785 and Newberry County, South Carolina is given as his place of
burial.
I do know that the Caldwells were connected to the Finley
bunch...communities
were small and families intermarried, brothers marrying sisters in
other
families and vice versa.
Please contact me if we have information we can exchange.
My lineage:
John Caldwell m. 1st. Margaret Porter 2nd. Mary Holmes their son Joseph m.
Jane McGhe is my line.
Joseph C. m. Jane McGhie their son John m. Margaret Phillips is my line.
John C. m. Margaret Phillips their son Robert m. Mary Logan is my line.
Robert C. m. Mary Logan their son Samuel m. Ann Balch is my line
Samuel C. m. Ann Balch their son William Philpot Curran Caldwell my
greatgreat grandfather.
William Philpot Curran Caldwell m. Jane Jackson their son James Samuel
Caldwell is my great grandfather.
James Samuel Caldwell m. Janie Mott their son Alvin Eugene Caldwell is my
grandfather.
I did not include dates...if we begin exchanging information I can send
that
if you need it. However, I imagine you are searching your Finley
roots and
only as they intertwine with the Caldwells would you be interested in any
of
that clan.
Hoping we can help each other out.......
I remain,
Barbara Randolph
