Lunenburg was called "The Old Free State" at one time and I have a list of
CALDWELL men from the two volumns on this county that served under Geo
WASHINGTON if anyone wants to see it. It was posted before, but may have
been missed.
The counties mentioned are sometimes referred to as Southside Virginia and
encompass all of "southside." You could say Pittsylvania, Henry, Brunswick,
Mecklenburg...as it grew, they formed new counties.
Some of the rivers running through these counties; Roanoke and Meherrin
probably run into NC on the border. I find the same families who lived on
these two rivers in Northampton County, NC. The will of one, William SHORT,
is filed in both Brunswick and Northampton...

Chris,
Don't the county names, Lunenburg and Prince Edward each overlap the same
Cubb Creek area, depending on the date?
Wasn't Lunenburg a giant when John and his 'co-churchers' got the right to
establish the Presbyterian colony(s). Didn't it included Cubb Creek and the
2nd area 'over the hill' to the north a bit?
I think material in books regarding Prince Edward County include the
Caldwells in Cubb Creek.
Lunenburg county today is nothing like it was in the Presbyterian Colony days.
Not being negative, you may have found sufficiant material to make my
understanding totally in error, but those are the thoughts I built about 10
years ago and I haven't really seen anything myself that shifts it.
Did I mention how I enjoyed seeing the Jarvis/Kit letter? Your locating it
and working to read and type it was great.
J.C.C. was sort of a D Boon, Kit Carson, Buffalo Bill himself. I guess he
wanted to get on the road again when he had to go to the hospital. <G>
(Have I mentioned that one of the Wilsons, JCC's sister Dora's step-son, is
said to have taken him there. If not I will re-get his name from Linda. I
thought one of my grandmother Martha (TODD) CALDWELL's nephew's, Morris TODD,
was involved, it appears I may be wrong. I guess Wilson and he could have
taken JCC together. )
