Message Board Post:
I am researching the line of James Frame and Margaret Hill Caldwell. Margaret Hill
Caldwell, b. 1894 in Fayette County, PA, and her husband, James Frame, probably married in
1808-1809 in Fayette County, then moved on to Guernsey County where their first child was
born in 1810.
I am trying to find information on the parents of Margaret.
They were John Caldwell and Deborah Hill: both were born about 1760. They are living with
2 sons and 3 daughters in Springhill Township, Fayette County, PA in 1800. John's name
(spelled Coldwell) is listed above the name of an older woman, Margaret, possibly his
widowned mother. Also listed above his name is William Coldwell, perhaps a brother. In
1810, John moved to German Township, Fayette County, PA as did William. Margaret is not
listed. By 1810, there are 4 boys and 7 girls listed in their family.
While in Fayette County, John Caldwell was in the distillery business with David Frame. By
1810, the Frames had moved on to Guernsey County, Ohio. By 1820, John and Deborah moved
there as well. There are marriage dates of several Caldwells in Guernsey County: James
(1811) to Nancy Williams; Rebecca (1814) to James Gordon; Sarah (1816) to David Thompson;
Robert (1821) to Rachel McCortel; and Mary (1829) to David Robe. I wonder if these
individuals might be children of John and Deborah?
Does any of this sound plausible? I sure would appreciate any help or advice as to where I
can find some information on the Caldwells and Hills.
