"...When I open an email from this list, I want to be able to read the
originator's
post in the body of that email! I don't want to have to click on a URL
and wait for another page to come up before I can tell whether it is of
interest to me or not. The new way is NOT a better way!"
As a subscriber and contributor to numerous surname lists, I promptly skip
over any messages that don't contain the originator's post in the body of
the email. It's a waste of time for it's lack of efficiency! I've also
begun to drop my subscription on any list that uses this method. The SMITH
and ADAMS lists began using this method for ALL message board posts; and
the initial discussions were similar to those being heard here on the
CALDWELL list. The requests or desires expressed by list subscribers hasn't
made a difference on those lists because no one in the 'hierarchy' is
listening.
I'm also not buying into the copyright issue. It's a common cop out and
over used as an excuse.
Much of this goes back to the fact that
Ancestry.com is buying up all the
free genealogy lists and websites. Ancestry doesn't want anyone to get
their info or have back door access to their message boards without paying
their exorbitant subscription fees. Does anyone else see the word
"monopoly" popping up here? It's all about the greed for money and the
control and flow of info by
Ancestry.com. They control genealogy sites by
"ownership" and I personally believe they will run the message boards their
way regardless of how we feel. Anyone who can help change either of these
situations has my support.
