Dear John:
Am I correctly assuming, based on your answer below, that you are the
Administrator of our list? I may have known that before, but had forgotten
since it has been a while since I did any concentrated research on the
CALDWELL line. I monitor the list constantly for any pertinent incoming
info, however.
I agree with and appreciate your expressed views!
As for what I want for the list, I will briefly reiterate what I have
already stated in my original and second posts in this thread. When I
open an email from this list, I want to be able to read the originator's
post in the body of that email! I don't want to have to click on a URL
and wait for another page to come up before I can tell whether it is of
interest to me or not. The new way is NOT a better way!
Ideally every post would include adequate lead information in the subject
line, but you and I both know that just doesn't happen often. We are so
often in a hurry to send a reply that we merely hit Reply and never take
time to change the subject line, as we should all do. I waste lots of time
opening emails with a subject line of interest, only to find that the body
of the message is far removed from the original subject line which has been
passed along numerous times. After six years of seeing Administrators
begging their list users to change the subject line to fit their message or
reply, only to be totally ignored, I think most everyone has just given up
on that.
Thank you, John, for whatever you can do to correct this situation. I, for
one, will be very grateful.
Martha

Ancestry.com & RootsWeb make their money off of the hard
work of genealogy researchers who share their findings
with others.
Others trying to learn their lines, or share their lines,
or whatever, is the real draw to sites like this.
In other words, it is the social interaction and the
information that we share with each other that is the draw
that allows these sites to sell advertising.
I would venture to say that they make more money from
advertising than they do the sale of records and data
bases.
There would be copyright infringement on any of us if our
work was sold - and even if we give it to someone who, in
wanting to be a part of one of these sites, uploads our
data with theirs. Anyway, it can turn into a big ugly
mess.
So I'm going to call them out, and if they force Caldwells
to have to click over to read postings so that they can
sell advertising, then I'll add the same sort of software
that they use to
CaldwellGenealogy.com. It doesn't matter
to me because it's not about money - it's about Caldwells
connecting.
There is already a discussion forum at CaldwellGenealogy,
but it's not configured the same as here, and when it's
active it tends to get more heady than basic queries. If
there is a demand by Caldwells for a "query" forum, then
I'll add one and when it comes to Caldwell, then screw
these guys and their micromanaging BS.
Whatever you all want to do, just let me know.
Best regards,
John Caldwell
