John,
I have traced my CALDWELL line back to OH (Ross Co. area) in 1808.
My ancestor was John CALDWELL b. 1810 Ross Co., OH m. Margaret
CLOUSER in 1835 Ross Co. OH. I have found John's parents to be a
John and Mary CALDWELL b ca 1775-80 from PA. John and his family
moved to Ind and then on to Andrew Co. MO by 1850.
Now I know John had at least on brother whose name was William.
William was born 1808 OH and he married 2nd in Ind a Elizabeth
CHRISTY (I am not sure who his first wife was). He too moved on to
Andrew Co. MO. According to a letter written by William's grandson
or son (i would have to search my notes), this CALDWELL line came
to the states in the mid 1700s from Ireland, although the family was
originally from Scotland.
Is this the family that you are talking about? I would love to know
more if it is.
Thank you for your time,
Christine Talbot
I might have something for you. Betty Evenson comes from a John who was born about 1776
in PA. We thought might have had something as I have a John born 3 April 1776 in PA, but
as it turned out there were two Johns born in PA in 1776.
Betty might be on this mailing list, so maybe she'll pick up on it. She keeps some
data online at
http://www.caldwellgenealogy.com/kin/betty/ that might have some info for
you.
Good luck!
John
