Message Board Post:
I have information in my files that an Esther Caldwell married Samuel Ewing, probably in
Ireland, and that they had a daughter Sally born about 1782 (in Ulster) who married Samuel
Jackson in Bullocks Creek, York District, South Carolina. This Samuel Ewing died about
1805-06 in York District (now York County).
Another source lists a sister of Sally -- Elizabeth, I believe -- who married a Love.
Sally Ewing Jackson died in 1816 in Missouri Territory near what is now Fulton. At the
time of her death she was traveling with the Love family -- some of whom went on to Utah
eventually. It's all very confusing.
My ancestor Samuel Jackson was born about 1778 in York SC and his first wife is believed
to have been named "Sarah." He later moved to Rush County, Indiana and then to
Iowa, then to Illinois where he died at an advanced age in 1863. He had a son named
Samuel as well, and it is believed that this Samuel's middle name was
"Caldwell."
All these names -- Caldwell, Ewing, Love, Jackson -- seem to be connected somehow and
I'm trying to figure out if the above-mentioned Sally Ewing Jackson whose sister
married a Love was indeed the wife of "my" Samuel Jackson. If anything soiunds
familiar, or if you have any ideas, I'd love to hear from you.
