Hi cousin Gordon,
My research indicates that Samuel Caldwell emigrated to Nova Scotia in 1856 on the
"Mary Ann". His brother John had emigrated many years before, probably as early
as 1831 to 1834. I am not aware of any other brothers of John and Samuel. What is the
source of your information for them?
I am aware of the following immigrants from Northern Ireland to Nova Scotia in 1856, 1857
and 1858:
Samuel Caldwell 1812
Nancy 1808
Margaret 1834
Samuel 1834
William John 1835
Jane 1838
Nancy 1840
Eliza 1843
James 1847
Rebecca 1849
Emily 1851
Of the children, Margaret, Samuel, Jane and Rebecca stayed in Nova Scotia. William John
lived in Sheffield Mills until 1888 when he sold his property and moved. No one seems to
know where. Nancy was never found in Kings County records and is presumed to have died
during passage. The fate of Eliza and James is unknown. They were not mentioned in Kings
County records. I have been told that James became a doctor and moved to the western
United States. Emily Frances moved to Boston, met and married Richard Robert Crowe and
moved west to Billings, Montana where they both died in 1930.
John Caldwell, the original immigrant to Nova Scotia, died in 1859 in Baxters Harbour.
John and Samule Sr. had a sister named Margaret who was born around 1831.
I would be interested to know your source for the 1854 immigration of Samuel, John and 3
other brothers on the ship "Elizabeth". Do you have a passenger list that shows
them?
