A friend of mine is researching a line of Caldwells that emigrated from
England/Ireland in the mid-1800's. The earliest known Caldwell relative was
an Irish sailor (possibly raised in Warrenspoint, County Down) by the name
of Richard William CALDWELL b. 21 Sept 1850 (England)
f. John Caldwell (Ireland/England) m.Julia Flynn (Ireland).
m. 2nd w. Emily Taite, 02 February 1904
d. 11 Dec 1940 Bay City, MI, US
sp. 1st wife - ?
2nd wife - Emily Tait (Taite) (Ireland)
f. Robert Tait (Ireland) m. Elizabeth Scott (Scotland/Ireland)
He jumped ship and settled in New York City in the 1870's. I know that
Richard William had at least three brothers and a sister (James, John,
Louie, and Hannah) but I have never been able to directly link him to any
previously researched British/US Caldwell line. Louie and Hannah followed
Richard to the US and settled in New York City. Richard William worked for
the Cunard Steamship line for a number of years. He and his wife, Emily,
left New York City and moved to Akron, Michigan abt 1920.
