My thanks to Deena and Babs for giving me the complete name of SBF
Caldwell. I'm responding to the whole group to make the connection
between the Logan County KY Caldwells and the Livingston County KY
Caldwells.
My great great grandmother Zerelda Caldwell was born in Livingston
County to David Caldwell and Catherine Davidson. This David goes back
to the Cub Creek Group. He was son of David Varner C, who was son of
David Caldwell, son of John Caldwell of Chestnut Level in PA to Cub
Creek in VA.
Zerelda Married John Ray also born in Livingston County and they moved
to Macon County Missouri shortly after they wed Jan 7, 1835 and lived
there until about 1855 when they returned to Kentucky after the death of
John Ray's father.
I looked for other family members in Macon County as I usually find
families moving in groups. That is when I found SBF Caldwell and his
family.
I would really love to connect with anyone who also has Livingston
County connections.

Hello Lloyd,
I'm sorry that I haven't gotten a reply off to you sooner than this. I know
what it is like when you are trying to find information.
I do know some information about this family. I have been trying to
determine if they are part of my ancestors. First, I would like to make some
corrections in your deciphering of their names. The head of household for this family
is SBF Caldwell. He is Samuel Benjamin Franklin Caldwell. He was a
Cumberland Presbyterian Minister. His first son listed is Samuel K. His first
daughter listed is Jane Ann. The second daughter is Julia E. I was having
difficulty reading these and compared the letters to others that were fairly easy to
read on the same sheet.
I believe that I may be related to this family through William B.
We have a family legend that we were related to the Dr. W.B. Caldwell that
developed Campho-Phenique. We found an article about Dr. Caldwell celebrating
his 80th birthday in family papers. Other than this information, I haven't
been able to prove it as of yet. But I have been researching them to try and
break through this. I found an article about Dr. William Burr Caldwell on a
Monticello, Illinois web site that has a ton of great genealogical information.
The address is:
www.historicmonticello.org/pepsin.htm This site lists his
parents, Samuel B.F. Caldwell and Lucinda Steele. His birthdate and place and
his migration. I was able to get some information in searches about Rev. Samuel
B.F. Caldwell but am still waiting for more from a couple of places. S.B.F.
Caldwell was living in Liberty, Macon, Missouri on the 1860 Census, page 4. I
have not been able to locate him on a 1870 census so I'm thinking that he
might have died before then because he would have been about 66 or 67 years old
in 1870. I also located a couple of family trees on
ancestry.com. I found in
one source that SBF Caldwell was born in Logan County, Kentucky and did find a
Samuel Caldwell with a child about the right age on the 1810, 1820 censuses in
Russellville, Logan County. But there were many, many Caldwell families
living in Logan County so this may not be them.
There was one record in the Ancestry family trees that might be more accurate
than the others but I have not followed up on contacting the person that
placed it there....they have not done any updating in 2 years so they might not
even be there anymore....this person lists SBF Caldwell with a birthdate of June
25, 1804 which fits with the census records. One of his brothers is listed
as being born in Russellville, Logan, KY and his father is listed as Samuel and
died in Russellville, Logan, KY on June 5, 1835. His wife is listed as Anne
Balch. Samuel's parents are listed as Robert Caldwell and Mary Logan. If you
are interested in all of the particulars on this record, I would be happy to
send them on to you but do know that I haven't researched any of this
information and do not know it to be true, it is just fitting with what I know
already. I am hoping that in researching these families that I might find the link
to my family. I had but aside this research while I was working on my direct
ancestors but began to look into it again when I saw your email.
I hope that some of this information has been helpful. I will be happy to
share anything else that I can with you, if you like.
