I married a Caldwell from Richwood, West Virginia. Earlier yesterday before
I got your message, my daughter told me that my wife's mother had told her a
Caldwell ancestor had came over on the Mayflower. I have just started in to
tracing ancestors so I know very little about it. I have traced my wife's
line back to a Patrick H. Caldwell in the middle 1800's in Giles County,
Virginia thus far.
However, I would look for Mayflower Historical groups in Plymouth, Boston,
Massachusetts and England for information and guidance.
If you find any of your husband's ancestors moving to Virginia let me know.
Good luck and keep trying

Subject: [CALDWELL-L] 1840, 1860, 1870 CENSUS lookup JAMES CALDWELL in NEW
YORK Possibly descended from a Mayflower Passenger?
I have new Information from my Mother-in-law that shocked me. She
says
her husband's (Basil Vincent Lane) mother (Blanche Ella Caldwell Lane)
had a Silver Cup which was given at some period of time to the family or
those that had come over on the Mayflower. Now that goes back to the
early 1600's. That is close to another 200 years. She believes that it
was the Caldwell line that came over. James (see below) father was
supposed to have been born in New Hampshire and his mother in Mass. Does
anyone have any suggestions on how to research that far back????
