"Maxey B Shelton was born near Lexington, Kentucky, April 5, 1824, died at
her home in Leon, Iowa, February 11, 1900, aged 75 years, 10 months, and 6
days. When she was 13 years old she removed with her parents to Illinois
and after residing their a few years moved to Fairfield, Iowa in 1840. She
was married to A. Caldwell at Fairfield, in 1841. In 1855 they removed to
Decatur City and in 1877 to Leon, where she resided with her husband until
her death. She was the mother of four children, two dying in infancy, J.A.
Caldwell residing in this city and John Caldwell at Council Bluffs. She
united with the Seventh Day Adventist church in the year 1857 and lived a
consistent Christian life. She was a loving wife, kind and affectionate
mother and a good neighbor, loved and respected by all who knew her. The
aged husband who has lost the companion of more than sixty years has the
sympathy of the entire community. The funeral services were held from the
home on Monday afternoon, conducted by Elder Williams, pastor of the Advent
church, the interment being in the Leon cemetery."
