Hi, Lloyd:
Before responding to your question, let me preface it by saying I know that
"dedicated researchers" do not like to use the Internet for their research,
but as our small town library no longer handles genealogical data, I've had
no choice but to use the Internet. I've found lots of information over the
past several years, and more has become available as other folks have
"discovered" this medium as a wonderful tool in connecting with family.
I first started off at the LDS website as I had nothing to work with or
from. I backtracked to Mary SWEETENHAM, but could find nothing further on
her at that point. After several months of "digging" and posting queries
and obtaining a subscription to an online library service, I found her
information in John Burke's, "A Genealogical and Heraldic History of the
Commoners of Great Britain and Ireland", Vol. II, p460, which listed her
marriage to John CALDWELL born 06/06/1603. This was the key I'd been
looking for as it verified the marriage.
I also found information at John Caldwell's genealogy site:
http://caldwellgenealogy.com where I found documentation and other
information relating to this particular line. Among the references used
there are articles from the "Belfast Times", 1856 by R.M. Sibbet.
The John BOYD listed in the database married Mary GRAHAM, daughter of Thomas
GRAHAM (b 1725 d 06/1798 per DAR Information, National number 181464,
DAR#179087). Now whether this is a different family of BOYDs or ties into
the ones you mentioned, I have no idea as I've not dug into that line.
According to the above mentioned "Belfast Times", John CALDWELL Jr. was
first married to Margaret PORTER (b abt 1635 d 05/16/1653). They were
married on 06/11/1651. John next married Mary HOLMES on 06/06/1654. She
was baptized 06/16/1632 in Londonderry, Ireland. It is apparently so that
the American CALDWELLs descend from this one couple.
I hope this response has answered some questions...
Best regards,
Jacquelyn (Erhard) Bean

Dear Jacquelyn,
Could you tell us where you found your Caldwell lineage. There is a lot
of
Caldwell information scattered in bits and then recollected on the
internet and it all becomes confusing. There obviously was a large Caldwell
group that immigrated from Ireland to Pennsylvania.
I had tracked the Boyds for a while, and found two John Boyds arriving in
Pennsylvania from Ireland.
John Boyd arrived in PA before 1744 and wed Sarah de Vane a Huguenot.
they lived in Lancaster county
John Boyd #2 arrived in PA before 1767, married Mary Fulton and
proceeded
to have at least 4 sons who became ministers.
From A Family History Boyd by John Wright Boyd
To conclude, there are a lot of people with similar names all in PA at the
same
time, and many in Lancaster County.
Were they related?
Do we track them all back to John Caldwell and Mary Holmes?
