This is wordy, but I'm questioning common thinking, so I am explaining my
thought process.
Now that I have some clue what I am doing, I am going back through my
earliest records and thinking about them again. Tonight I noticed that I, like
many other people, have listed a marriage between Alexander Caldwell and Frances
Griffin in 1823. I am almost positive I have a copy of the marriage license
in my files that are packed for a move.
So, tonight I am looking at this and realized that Alexander Caldwell was 14
in 1823. Frances Griffin died in 1823-1824, almost immediately after this
marriage. There are no known children of this marriage, so this makes sense
in general, but not for a 14 year old.
The Alexander Caldwell born in 1809 was next married in 1830 to Elizabeth
Goodwin, when he was 21. That makes sense. I have that marriage certificate
also.
So, the question is, WHICH Alexander Caldwell married Frances Griffin in
1823? There is an earlier Alexander Caldwell, born between 1794 and 1804. He
was a brother to Absalom, who was father to the Alexander born in 1809. I
have almost no information of any kind on him, so I wonder if this is the right
Alexander. Does anyone have any input?
