Thanks John! I agree with you. The registering is a PITB (pain in the butt)
;o))

Subject: [CALDWELL-L] RE: Colonial Ancestors Database
The site from "America's First Families" has done a
pretty good job of
listing the fraudlent lineages of the infamous Gustave Anjou,
born Gustaf
Ludvig Ljungberg in Sweden in 1863. Yes, Caldwell was one of the 305 known
fraudlent lineages concocted by Anjou, and has been discredited as such for
several years.
One of the big problems with the Anjou lineage being perpetuated is that,
in my
opinion, too many "Caldwells" romanticize the notion that our line
were Muslim pirates around 1500 who retired to France as Huguenots on their
way to ride with Cromwell against the Irish (Catholics) in 1649 and the
Scots (Presbyterians) in 1650, before buying a castle in Scotland during the
rein of James I who died in 1625.
Now, you don't have to be a rocket scientist to see that the above just
doesn't add up but let's face it, Erol Flynn made a dashing and romantic
pirate. ;)
I have some other data on these and other myths that you might find
interesting at
http://caldwellgenealogy.com/comments.html
btw - I have just moved my "Caldwell" site to it's own domain at
http://caldwellgenealogy.com - This site is a "labor of love" and
contains
no advertising or any other gimicks.
Some of the features include a message board that "digests" several posts
into one mail similar to this mail system so that you're not peppered with
dozens of messages a day. Right now it's a post only board, but I'll be
adding a "mail to" feature just like this forum very soon.
Another feature is a Caldwell Web Ring that I added yesterday in the hope
of
eventually linking Caldwell sites together on the ring. Today I'll
probably be adding free genealogy pages for Caldwell kith and kin. These
pages will allow you to upload you line in html files created by one of the
many gedcom (or gedcom to html) programs available for free.
Why am I doing this? As I stated, it's a labor of love - that and because
I
get very frustrated having to register on a site just to view what data
might (or might not) be there - and because I think that much of the
navigation on a lot of these "free" ancestory sites sucks and isn't very
friendly to the novice (hell, I've been online and developing sites for six
years and I have a hard time!)
Anyway, I'm starting to ramble, so I guess it's time for me to close. ;)
