Hi Audrey,
I realize that you didn't do the research and that you only passed on what someone
else had written, which is why I quoted the source as "The Old Free State". I
meant no offense, and I appreciate all of your hard work.
You are correct in that all genealogies contain errors. My point simply was that the
whole french/pirates/cromwell is easily dispelled with a couple of keystrokes and has been
proven irrelevant to the family names that followed, so I don't see the value in
continuing something that is just fiction.
And to Karen - I'm not disagreeing with Audrey, however I don't find those old
myths to be relevant to the families that are listed afterward, and those stories often
confuse those new to genealogy who may not have as many years in research.
It's not fair to a new researcher to have to wade through mis-information when
it's known by others to be false, let alone irrelevant to the John Caldwell/Margaret
Phillips line which the story gones on to chart. The way the story is worded carries the
presumption that if the family data is accurate, then so must be the introduction.
I feel that my point is simple and fair, and I apologize if I may have come off as harsh -
there isn't much inflection on "here" so sometimes things aren't always
read the way they are meant.
Sincerely,
John Caldwell
