From the Bedford County, Va. Court Order Books, 6 & 7, 1774-1783
(Bevin Creel's transcription)
From Order Book 6, page 93, Court held Mar 27, 1775.

earlier in one of the deed books.]
Order Book 6. Page 103. Court held Oct 23, 1775. " Richard Stith, gentleman, Harry
Terrill, & George Caldwell are appointed to state & settle the account between

of Sophia Taylor, wife of Samuel Taylor to a deed for 341 acres of land sold by her
husband to George Caldwell returned & ordered recorded."
Order Book 6, page 315. Court held April 24, 1781. " The execution of a dedimus for
the privy examination of Isbell Caldwell to an indenture of Bargain & Sale from George
Caldwell to Robert Armistead, returned & recorded."
That is all I have for George Caldwell of Prince Edward and Bedford counties. I am
sure there are many more documents that I have yet to find. That is why I post this
stuff. It takes many eyes looking. The more eyes, the better. It is like dropping a
pebble in a pond. Except now, with the Internet, this pond reaches around the world,
almost instantly. I hope I may have provided a single clue that will help someone solve a
riddle. In return, I hope someone might give me the clue I need to break down my brick
walls with the Irvins of Hat Creek.
I earlier mentioned the George Caldwell and Isbell possibly going to Mercer county, Ky.
If you recall I said "I suspect." they may have gone there. It is so easy for
us to take a giant leap of faith when we try to jump to another state and to a much later
(or earlier) time. It is usually circumstantial and the similarity of names is not
"proof." I know very little about Kentucky records. What I cobbled together
doesn't prove anything. I have been busy trying to tie my Irvins, Irvines, Irwins to
a specific place in Pennsylvania, and ultimately to Ireland. This Kentucky business is
one of those side tangents I always get on while trying to get around a brick wall. Right
now I am stuck in the 1740's, 1750's, in Cumberland county, Pa. between
Shippensburg and Chambersburg. I seem to be gaining a little ground in getting my Irvins
to Virginia. But it is very shaky and tentative right now. Someday we will all together
break down a few of those walls.
And as a parting shot, I have seen a Mercer county reference to the son of George
Caldwell,-- George Jr's full name was George Davis Caldwell. But I cannot find it.
And don't quote me on that. Ha!
