One thing I have found out is that the claim that Sir James 1st Baronet Caldwell married
Catharine Hume can be found in an account of the Caldwells by an R.M. Sibbet in the
Belfast Times, 1856. However, Cokayne's Complete Baronetage (ca. 1900), it has what I
believe is the correct info (because of the dates), i.e. that Catharine Hume was married
to Henry 2nd Baronet Caldwell.
Also, the Belfast Times article lists a bunch of children for John Caldwell (the father of
Sir James) and his wife Mary Swettenham, including Mary, Margaret, Alexander, Joseph,
etc., whereas the archives of the public records office in Northern Ireland say their only
children were James, Roger, John, Robert, and Judith.
I actually can only trace my line back to my 4x great-grandmother Sarah Eunice Caldwell,
the daughter of Henry Caldwell (b. 1781 in Virginia). Some say that Henry was a son of
Hugh Caldwell, but I can't find any supporting evidence. Basically the supposed
parentage for several generations is probably messed up.
