Message Board Post:
I have only recently been researching the David Robert Caldwell family for a lady in TX.
I found that David Robert Caldwell from Laurens, SC was living in Russell County AL in
1852 and died there after 1866 (he's on the 1866 AL census). His wife, Elizabeth
Wardlaw Caldwell appears on the 1880 census in Russell County with several children. She
is living next door to her dau Katie and husband Clarence Hooks. David and
Elizabeth's son, Robert W. Caldwell is on the 1870 and 1880 census in Marshall County
AL with his wife, family and father-in-law Wm. Turk. David Robert was a member of the
Home Guard during the Civil War and Robert W. served in GA and AL companies (check the
Alabama Dept of Archives & History Civil War data base), but neither filed for a CW
pension. I also found a copy of David Robert's brother (James d. 1827) will in which
he names his brother George Forrest as an executor., I hope this helps clarify some of
the confusion.
