Probably not my William. But interesting. Thanks for the info. I have tracked the
Givens back to
Antrim, Northern Ireland 1640. The Todd name is also interesting. My grandfather's
name was
Walter Tod Caldwell, after Tod Robinson Caldwell, governor of N,C 1871-1874. My
grandfather
was born Oct 4, 1871, Catawba Co., N.C.
William is such a ubiquitous name among the Scot Irish that is is almost impossible to
track.
I guess after William of Orange??.

Subject: [CALDWELL] William Caldwell (1738-1820)
I have been trying to find more information about William Caldwell for more than twenty
years. Here's what I can document:
Pennsylvania Archives, volume 23, series III, page 472: William Caldwell appears on a
list of Pennsylvania Revolutionary Soldiers, drawing pensions but living in New York. His
pension started on 5 Mar 1819 and ended upon his death on 13 Dec 1820. He was aged 82 at
the time the pension began.
William died in Greenwich, Washington County, NY where he was probably living with his
daughter, Jane (Caldwell) Todd, and her family. William left everything to his
"beloved daughter, Jane Todd" in his will dated 11 Dec 1820.
Recently I located a modern (1988) burial a record on the SAR site. I added a memorial
for William on Find A Grave -
http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=92003909 Since then a volunteer
has added two photos of the gravestones (original and modern), but I just haven't been
able to find a wife (someone gave me the name Martha many years ago, but. . .), nor have I
learned if William had additional children who predeceased him. I believe he was born in
Pennsylvania to James Caldwell, Irish immigrant.
Any help or research suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Leona
