I sure wish I could be of help, but William is my stone wall. I know he was
born around 1760, but I don't know where. My guess is somewhere in New
England, but who knows? There are three of us researching this line - one
who is looking into Barry Caldwell who supposedly was the first born of
William and his spouse Rebecca ?. I am looking for William as the father of
Paul Caldwell who was born in 1790s. Paul was my gggrandfather. Paul's son
was Joseph Caldwell my ggrandfather who was the father of Statira Eliza
Caldwell Van Buren, my grandmother. I can verify William, Paul, Joseph and
Statira as I have the family bible. I don't think my Caldwells ever
ventured to Wyoming County although there are many James in my line. One
James was Joseph's brother who fought for the Union in the Civil War. He
lost a leg at Gettysburg I believe. I was under the impression that he
returned to the Ephratah area where he was a carpenter. Joseph was born
around 1830. The timeline fits, but the location is questionable. I sure
wish I could tie William to New England. It would make three people very,
very happy.

I have been trying to research the Caldwell's from WAY
back to
hopefully find the Caldwell that came to Wyoming County, NY from New
Hampshire where my husband's GGGrandfather was born on June 12, 1815.
Does ANYONE have any Caldwell's from these areas? We live on the farm
previously owned by JAMES CALDWELL, my hubby's GGGrandfather. I really
would love to find the connection here. I see by looking at the OLD
Census' that they were pretty prolific but when it got down to our line,
there were a lot of young deaths and the family dwindled. Anyone have a
Christmas present for me?
