DoD Identifies Army Casualty
The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Spc. Eric T. Caldwell, 22, of Salisbury, Md., died Jan 7 in Iraq of wounds sustained when his unit came in contact with enemy forces using small arms fire. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.

I have information on a William Caldwell and family living in Miami County, Ks per the 1880 federal census. The census lists William age 27 b. Ill., wife Matilda age 26 b. Mo., son William age 3 b. Ks. and son Harry age 2 mth b. Ks. I am trying to ascertain Matilda's maiden name. Any help would be most appreciated.
