I am searching for the family of Patrick Caldwell of Bourboun Co., Kentucky, born about 1782 who married Rachel (Barrett) in Bourboun Co., KY, on January 06, 1807. They are listed on the 1810 Wood Co., (W.) VA, census and then may have moved back to the Bourboun Co., KY, or Cincinnati, Ohio areas by 1820's. Rachel was born 1782 in Pennsylvania, and I believe she is the daughter of Samuel C. Barrett, Sr. and Mary Ellen (Hanna) of Fayette Co., PA, and Wood Co., (W.) Va. I have Rachel's side of the family. I am searching for further info on Patrick as well as Patrick & Rachel's descendants. Thank You, Mike Barrett -- MWBarrett(a)POL.net

This was an article was transcribed by Richard Heaton from the Salisbury Journal Monday, June 7, 1813
The following has been communicated to us by a Gentleman in this City. It is an extract from a letter which he received from his son, an Officer in our army in North America :-
"Port Erie, Feb.14, 1813,
You may as well be engaged with the Indians as with the soldiers of the United States; they are (without exception) the most unfair enemy in the world. A great proportion of their militia are armed with a rifle, and they wear a belt round their waists, in which they carry a tomahawk and an uncommonly large case knife, the blade not less than a foot long; they are called the Pennsylvanian riflemen. The Virginian militia are famous for what is called gouging, that is, by a sharp motion of the wrist they thrust their thumb into the corner of a person's eye and pluck it out. They have a regiment called the "Irish Greens," composed of deserters from our service and men who have emigrated from Ireland; - they generally choose a very dark night for their operations, and after doing all the mischief they can, retire again before day-light. - I will relate one circumstance that lately took place, which will point out the character of the Americans. A young man, of the name of Caldwel!
l, a son of Colonel Caldwell, at Detriot, on the memorable 22d of January, took one of the American officers prisoner. As he was bringing him in (and he had probably saved him from being scalped by the Indians), he turned his head to look at something behind him, when the American seized him by the collar, threw him on the ground, and with a large knife cut poor Caldwell's throat. Being, fortunately, a very strong young man, he threw the villain from off him, and, seizing his rifle, shot him through the heart. I am happy to add, that, when the express left Amhersburg, Caldwell was likely to recover."
Though this is doubtfully one of my Caldwell lineage I would like to know more about this Colonel, did his son survive? Stay in america after the war?
Note: Richard Heaton has a searchable site with with a colorful blend of articles from the newspapers largely 1750's-1840's, and cover most counties of England with a bias toward Wiltshire. Excellent site, I found it very entertaining
The index is accessed through the page below :

Use the Freefind search box to locate references Webpages, then use Ctrl-F to locate the precise reference (as most pages -- being complete newspapers -- take some time to read through).

OMG! Let me get out an orange crayon to spell this out.
People get giddy every time the Anjou papers come up.
They are told the truth that the information is false.
They don't care because it fits some fantasy, so they drone on about it like
it has any value.
Your $3 bill isn't worth $3.... Anybody want to roll up their sleeves and
take a stab at defending the Anjou papers, or are we finished on this
subject?
That said, I find no joy in making fun of people - even those who deserve
it.... But if that's what it takes to put an end to the foolishness, then
so be it.
Now, if that offends you then maybe historic research isn't for you.

An update to information about Joseph C. Caldwell:
I recently found some information indicating his full name was Joseph Cambell Caldwell and he was born in Maryland on !/26/1857 and died on 4 /16/1918, possibly in Pittsburgh, Pa. Other information indicates that in 1880 he was living in Bellaire, Belmont, Ohio with his mother and two sisters, Liza Jane and Mary E. In 1910 he may have been living in Liberty Township, Ohio working in a rolling mill. His wife and children are not listed in this census. Any help would be greatly appreciated..

Caldwell, Eliz.
Caldwell, Miriam
This yearbook lists the members of the Senior class of 1929, faculty members, members of the Corps of Cadets, and many members of various clubs (not all). Unfortunately, it does not list the names of the members of the Junior, Sophomore or Freshmen classes (only officers listed for those classes).
I extracted all of the names (& some other information) from the yearbook & have put them on my genealogy web site (total of 13 web pages, containing over 1,900 records; sorted alphabetically by surname).
The link to the first page of these extracts on my web site is:

Or it can be accessed through the "General Research" link on the main page at:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~sassytazzy/index.html
Please note that I put all kinds of genealogy information on my web site, not just data about the families I am researching. I hope the information I've put online helps someone with their research . . .
Susan :)

Do you know much about Mary Ann? The Mary Ann I'm researching was from
Scotland, but then immigrated to Providence RI and married a man by the name of
John Snow.
I'm hoping this is the same one, because I'm about to hit a brickwall!
