Is there any chance your Betty Ann Caldwell was related to my g-grandfather Isaac Caldwell? He lived at about that time, also County Down. He lived in or near the small village of Killyleagh.

This is in response to Judith Willingham. My name is Sandra Caldwell Ortega. My father is John Ellery Caldwell, the son of Taswell. I have just begun to inquire on any information about my fathers family. My father passed away in 1981. I don't have alot of history on either side. My father's mother was named Margaret. Would love to know more about her.
Jim,
I wish I knew more about my CALDWELLs but I'm afraid I don't. Here's
what I do know (I'll attempt to tell it chronologically). Most of it
was picked up from bios and obituaries I found.
My gg-grandfather, James Peckham CALDWELL, was born somewhere in
Maryland on 6 Jan. 1793. He had two sisters that I know of, Jane E.
and Ann(a) Maria. Jane married James H. CALDER (possibly in
Baltimore) and they had a son, Robert James CALDER, born 17 July,
1810 in Baltimore. James H. CALDER died around 1813, because his son
said he was age 3 at the time. I haven't been able to find his will.
James Peckham CALDWELL moved with his sister Jane and her son to
Hopkinsville, Christian County, KY around 1819, where they may have
lived together in the same household (the census at that time only
lists how many males and females - not names). James P. CALDWELL was
a Methodist, a planter, and he was also a member of the Masonic Lodge
in Hopkinsville. [There was a Charles CALDWELL who was a Master
Mason, also in that lodge, but I don't know if there was any
connection to my James. I think Charles was living there before James
arrived.] I found evidence that James and Jane's sister, Anna Maria,
had relocated with them because I found her marriage to Samuel D.
WALTMAN on 30 Dec. 1828 in Christian Co. KY. In 1831, James P.
CALDWELL wrote a letter to Stephen F. Austin ("the father of Texas"),
asking if he could join one of Austin's colonies there. This letter
still exists in the Texas State Archives, and someone wrote on it
that James was a widower. I don't have any record of a marriage of
James prior to 1835 in Texas. When they moved to Brazoria County,
Texas in 1833, Jane died and was buried there. Her son, Robert J.
CALDER, married and had children and there are a lot of Texas CALDERs
in that line. Anna Maria's husband, Samuel WALTMAN, died shortly
after they arrived and she remarried my ggg-grandfather, Charles
SHEARN. No children came of this marriage to SHEARN, and I read that
the only child she had with WALTMAN died before reaching adulthood.
James P. CALDWELL married a widow, Ann Bynum (nee PEARCE) MUNSON,
originally from Georgia. One of their children, Robert Milam
CALDWELL, is my line.
While researching Robert James CALDER, one of his biographies
mentioned the name of his mother's father back in Maryland: Dr. James
CALDWELL. It said that he had been a physician and a planter and that
he lived (and entertained) on the eastern shore of Maryland. I also
found a slave document in Queen Anne's County, MD between a Dr. James
CALDWELL and a Joseph WATKINS. My next step is to find a will of the
doctor, hoping it will mention his wife's name.
Unfortunately, I don't know anything about a Mary Polly CALDWELL.
Does any of this fit with your gg-grandmother?

Hi Gloria,
I am wondering if you have made any progress on your John CALDWELL research. In case you don't remember me, I am descended from Samuel Jr. and Maria by their daughter Sarah b. 1830.
I saw a posting on another site and the person indicated that John E. CALDWELL came over in 1771 via New York with his children, his father James CALDWELL and his grandfather John CALDWELL.. I am awaiting a response from this person as I left them a message.

Jane My G,G,Grandmother, Mary Polly Caldwell married my G,G, Grandfather,
John Grace, assuming Polly is a nickname for Mary, she always went by the name
Polly and this name is on her gravestone. I have no record of when or where
they married, possibly Georgia or Tennessee, some times in the early 1830s, their
first child was born about 1824.
They first appeared in the 1830 Census of Pike County, Georgia and lived
there until moving to Walker County, Alabama in 1859 where they died. I have
searched every avenue for their parents and have run into a dead end each time.
One of their sons, Jackson Grace was apparently born in Smith County, Tennessee
about 1836 even though they lived in Pike County, Georgia at that time, he
died young. I am assuming that Mary's folks lived in Smith County, Tennessee at
that time and she went to live with them during Child birth, but I have no
proof of any of this.
I would appreciate any thing at all that you have that may point me to her
parents. My G,G,Grandfather , John Grace was born about 1798 in Greene County,
Georgia, no record of him between Greene County and Pike County, a span of 32
years.

Hi everyone. I'm looking for information on the Caldwell side of the family.
1. Cebe Caldwell married Sally E. Hatley. I've been told by my Aunt that Cebe was not a nickname but his real name.
2. John Tyler Caldwell b. 1879 Mississippi, married Pearl Blackburn in 1899 in Texas. She was born in 1881 in Texas. The marriage certificate says Blackman. She couldn't read and no one noticed the error. I have found John on the 1910, 1920 and 1930 Texas Census but nothing before that.
3. Leroy Caldwell b. 1900 in Waco, Texas, married Alice Adams b. 1903 in Texas. She's 101 now. Wow.
4. Bobby Joe Caldwell b. 1929 in Waco, Texas, married Alice Yarbrough in Jan 1953. She was born 1929.
5. Me.
2. Brothers of John were Cebe, Claude and Rufe. No information on them.
3. Siblings of Leroy were Thelma and Nick. Thelma married an Edwards. I have no information on Nick.
I'm fairly new at this so any help would be appreciated.
