Looking for any baptismal birth records, marriage records, death records,
of James Caldwell and Jane (or Caroline) with their children in Ireland;
suspect Ulster, Antrim County, Northern Ireland (however not sure of this).
James was born in Ireland in 1775. He had a brother Joseph, born in 1776.
James was married in Ireland to a Jane or Caroline, about 1796. Their
first child was born about 1797, the second 1799, their third 1801, their
fourth 1803, and their last and fifth child in December of 1805 by the
name of John Caldwell. John Caldwell is my great great grandfather.
Jane died in 1806 and then James Caldwell immigrated to New York in 1806.
James Caldwell immigrated to Middleburgh, Schoharie County NY in the spring.
James married then a Deborah and has a child in 1807 as well as several
other children about every 2 years in Middleburgh, Schoharie County, NY.
In church Baptismal records it says "James Jr"; therefor then James "Jr"
had a father in Ireland by the name of James "Sr". "James Sr" then would
have been born in Ireland about 1735 - 1755. Do not know Senior's wife's name.
Also looking for records of "James Sr Caldwell" and his wife's name and their
children and where from in Ireland; suspect Antrim County, Northern Ireland.
Two of their children obviously were James (1775) and Joseph (1776).

butting into your conversation with someone else.
On Oct 17,1785 a WILLIAM GADBERRY served as surety at the wedding of CHARLES
PALMORE and JANE CALDWELL. She was the dau of THOMAS CALDWELL of Cumberland

We are digging and finding scanty information on the GADBERRY Family. Have

I would be glad to send you a copy of Robert's will. He only had two sons
and no daughters. I have searched and searched for his father but have found
no conclusive evidence of him. A cousin of mine (have no idea who she might
be) did some work on the Caldwells of Wash. County, VA. She went back to
Thomas Caldwell, Gent, who was in the county and then left but his son stayed.
Robert Caldwell, Sr. married Jane Neeley and had two sons. Robert and James.
Robert left a will and named his son Robert as admin. James married and we
think his wife was Jane Steele as her brother was admin. of his estate.
James named his son Robert, Jr. Robert also had a son that he named Robert, Jr.
Makes for much confusion.
My Robert, Jr who was the son of James, had several children and his
daughter Isobel married Jacob Miller.
Anyhow, I need an address to mail this to you. I am pushing 75 and not a
computer expert! I live at 24906 Cypress Street, Lomita, CA 90717. My phone
number is 310-530-3741
Thanks for answering!

This family is very interesting. I believe they belonged to "The First Christian Church", around Abbeville or Cambridge. They lived about nine miles north and east of Oxford,MS. They were neighbors to the GUNN family.
James Lee CALDWELL was my great grandfather. He was born in 1812 or 1813 in NORTH CAROLINA and died in 1906 near OXFORD. MS.
His children: John T.; Lucy T.; Maggie, Mary Jane;, William;Samuel; Dora Lee; Bettie who cared for James Lee, I think she died in 1936.this is not in order of their birth.
The ancestors were from IRELAND . I think they also resided in TN.
I do not know the father of James Lee CALDWELL, can anyone help mee. be glad to share my information.

Paul, I have an ancestor, Capt. Thomas COldwell (c1740-1840) of Washington
County VA and Hawkins County TN who at one time was also in Prince Edward
County VA and was married to Delphia Ballard. Several of the distant
cousins of this line have searched and searched for Thomas' father without
finding anything conclusive, except that we have fairly well discredited
that he is the son of Thomas (d c 1747) and grandson of Presbyterian elder
John Caldwell (d c 1751) of Brunswick / Charlotte County VA. I came to
theorize that my Thomas' father was Robert because of naming conventions
used a couple of generations down the line. However, I had not been able to
make a connection to a Robert in the Augusta/Botetourt etc counties through
wills, deeds and other records. I know there was a Robert Caldwell with 200
acres in the Beverly grant. I'm very interested in your information. There
was a James Caldwell who left a will (Hawkins Co TN, just over the line from
Washington County VA, and IN Washington County VA in earlier times) probated
3/30/1812 with wife Jane and children St, Clair, John, Ann, & Jane. He is a
contemporary of Thomas (1740-1804) and I have wondered if he was a brother.
Do you think there's any chance he's Robert Jr.'s father? Is there any
indication that your CAldwell's spelled it COldwell? Can you forward a copy
of James' will? Looking forward to hearing back from you.

My ancestor was Robert Caldwell, Jr. and Sr. Robert. Sr. died in
Washington
County, VA in 1806. Robert, Sr. married Jane Neeley. Their son James,
born
abt 1750, married Jane Steele. Their so, Robert, Jr. married Jane Lowery.
Robert, Jr. was born about 1777 in Wash. County, VA. Robert, Jr.'s
daughter,
Isabel Caldwell , born 28 Mar 1806 in Wash. Co, VA married Jacob Miller.
Isabel and Jacob's son, James Miller, married his cousin, Mary Rebecca
Lowery
in 1852 and these were my Mother's grandparents.
Anyone out there that connects? James' will asks that he be buried in the
Forks Meeting House Cemetery beside his wife. Haven't found but one
Meeting
House called meeting house at the Forks and that was Tingling Springs
Cemetery.
Anyone help?

Lu,
Not that I am aware of. I've never heard of any Charles or Nelson
names later on in the family either. Also not heard the name
Pentoney. It's so frustrating - it's like they just appeared in
Maryland, but I don't find too many records of them there. Sorry I
couldn't help you.
Good luck!
