If anyone can give us a scrap of information regarding the three surnames
mentioned below, we would be most grateful:
"On Oct 17, 1785 a WILLIAM GADBERRY is surety for CHARLES PALMORE and JANE
CALDWELLS marriage. She is the daughter of THOMAS CALDWELL, Cumberland County,
VA. The wedding took place in Cumberland County."

I am not sure if my Caldwells were in Pennsylvania but they were in the
town of Allegany in Cattaraugus County in Southern New York. I have not
gotten anymore info further back than his birth on June 12th, 1815. I
believe one of the Census stated that his father was from New Hampshire
and his mother was from Massachusetts. Sometimes they are wrong. Anyone
know of a James Caldwell from NY born on that date with parents possibly
from NH and Mass.? He married a Polly (Mary) Hayford that was from
Allegany County. Any help would be appreciated.

Caldwell or Colwell's of Pennsylvania and Irish descent:
I and several other family relatives have been researching the life of a great-grandfather, who was known as Warren J. COLWELL aka Warner J. CALDWELL aka Jack CALDWELL aka W.J. COLWELL aka (possibly even as) John COLWELL by the many people that lived in the surrounding area of the Fort Peck Assiniboine & Sioux Indian Reservation of Montana, up until the time of his death in 1920.
On his death certificate, this information was found noted as -
Name: Warren J. COLWELL
Deathdate: 8 Nov. 1920
Birthdate: 8 May 1852
Birthplace: PA (Pennsylvania)
Father's name: Unknown
Mother's name: Unknown
Occupation: Postmaster
Wife: Helen S. IVANS or IVONS
Residence: Frazer for 48 years
Burial: 10 Nov. 1920
Burialplace: Frazer Cemetary, VALLEY, MT
Informant of said document: Mrs. W.J. COLWELL
Is there anyone out there, who is missing a branch to their family tree and his personal information is similar or even remotely close to that of this man's. Please do not hesitate to contact me, there is more information that can be shared concerning the life of our great-grandfather's. Plus, we are or I am seeking to connect him with his family.
Thanks,

Thank you Heather!. Your response is one of the few that I ever get
concerning the name GADBERRY.
I will add your findings to my file. (on all three families)

We have this interesting, but unidentified morsel, in our records:
"On Oct 17, 1785 a WILLIAM GADBERRY is surety for CHARLES PALMORE and JANE
CALDWELLS marriage. She is the daughter of THOMAS CALDWELL, Cumberland County,
VA."
Any scrap, or guesswork about this THOMAS CALDWELL and his daughter JANE
would be greatly appreciated. The same goes for Mr. CHARLES PALMORE (PALMER) and
Mr. WILLIAM GADBERRY.

Hi, Jane. Yes, my husband and I got a cable modem last year. Earlier, we
had a satellite but each time there was a cloud or strong wind, our signals
were lost. So, when the broadband connection was available, we got it. I
love it! To be on the computer without tying up a phone line is great.
Anyway, I have to go to the grocery store and when I return, I will send you
info on Andrew Caldwell.
Can I tell you the story of this research? In 1976, my late father drove me
down to a rural area and introduced me to a distant cousin. He gave me a
small unpublished booklet on my Caldwell family. The earliest known
ancestor was James who married Sarah Lucinda Caldwell, ca. 1790. It's
possible that James' father was also Andrew but the later Andrew (b. 1803)
was my gr-gr-grandfather.
I've not been able to find much on James and his wife and nothing on his
parents. I have a lot of info on the descendants of Andrew and some info on
a daughter of James -- she was Mary who married Thomas Mendenhall. I have a
few brick walls in my research and James Caldwell is one of them.
Good to hear from you. I'll be back asap. Mary Ellen
