The only information I have, handed down, is that my Seth Caldwell was born in England, although a now deceased aunt said his parents came from Holland. She said he came to Virginia in 1822 with his wife, no name there. She also said his wife's parents were from Ireland.
They settled around Jamestown, VA. They only had one son, William, born 1/12/1825. They moved to eastern KY when William was a child.
Anyone have any information on my Seth?
Thanks
I was looking at books on E-Bay and saw a Family Bible with the family record for a Caldwell and Deegan family .
I thought someone who is from this family might be on this list and would like to rescue this precious old family Bible. There are photographs of the Bible that can be viewed on e-bay. I do not have any vested interest in this Bible other than the fact that I am researching my own family and I hold items like this in my own family very dear to my heart.
I enlarged the photographs they have of the Bible and copied what I could read from the Family Record. As best I could make it out it is as follows:
MARRIAGES:
Robert Caldwell & Elizabeth Deegan married Nov. 10, 1831
Robert Caldwell born Nov. 21, 1806
Elizabeth Caldwell born Nov. 7, 1808 (I think this is Elizabeth Deegan Caldwell)
BIRTHS:
Emily Caldwell Oct 4, 1832
Joseph Caldwell Aug. 14, 1834
Sarah ------- Caldwell June 30, 1836
John Westly Caldwell March 10, 1838
Henry Rufus Caldwell Aug 19, 1839
Elizabeth Caldwell June 11, 1941
Catherine Caldwell May 12, 1843
DEATHS:
Elizabeth Caldwell 28? Oct ---- 65 years of age
Robert Caldwell ? --?--1843 37 years of age
Emily Caldwell 14th 1848 ? years of age
Mother departed this life Aug 22, 1887 Her age at time of death was 78 years 9 months 15 days (does not give mother's name)
Joseph Caldwell May 1, 1915
Henry Rufus Caldwell Apr.
Catherine Caldwell 1916?
John Wesley Caldwell Nov. 9, 1930 aged 92 years
There was more info. in the Bible record that I could not read.
I guess if someone has questions they can e-mail the person selling the Bible. Following is a link to the page where the bible is posted.

I am anxious to contact anyone who is descended from Mrs MEG Caldwell and any living descendants of the famous sculptor Hamilton MacCarthy (1847-1939) or anyone who can point me in the direction of such persons. Mrs Caldwell was Hamilton's daughter. I have compiled a detailed history of Hamilton's ancestors right back to Denis MacCarthy who was born about 1730 and married Ann Gorden (also spelt Gordon) in 1752. I also have much info on Ann's ancestry.
The above Hamilton MacCarthy was already a famous sculptor before he emigrated to Canada in 1885 and his career is well documented. He had 15 children - his sons included Coeur de Lion MacC (known as Leo, another sculptor) who married Florence Cameron; Hamilton Fordham MacC; Plantaganet AG MacC; Hector Dewhurst MacC; Ernest Stafford MacC (died 1952, widow was the former Effie Morris - they had a daughter (Christian name unknown) who became Mrs Paul Scott of Sarnia; and Richard Geoffrey HW MacCarthy. The first three sons were born in England, the others in Canada. Hamilton's daughters were Maude MacC (probably did not marry); Edith Ursula MacC (probably did not marry); Mrs JC Maxwell (her married name, of course - Christian names not known); Mrs MEG Caldwell, youngest daughter (again married name, Christian names not known); Mrs Withrew (married name, Christian names not known); Harriet Frances C. MacC (could have become Mrs Maxwell or Mrs Withrew).
Hamilton's grandchildren were Mrs. D. Browning-Couch, Miss Winona Withrew, Wilma Maxwell, Dalton Caldwell and Carlton Caldwell, and Helen Muir of Victoria, British Columbia, alive in 1996;
Great-grandson - Martin MacCarthy of St. Hyacinthe, Quebec;
Great-greatgranddaughter - Charlene or Sharleen MacCarthy of Ottawa.
I would love to exchange info with any interested descendants in this MacCarthy line - there are extant branches in England (I am the great-great-great-great Grandson of the Denis MacCarthy born c.1730), Australia, South Africa and of course Canada; other MacCarthys went to various British colonies. I believe the above mentioned Mrs Caldwell had an illuminated copy of a family tree tracing the family back to William the Conqueror - and it is recorded that a copy was deposited in the British Museum - I am in touch with the British Library to see if this can be located. Our own papers include an illuminated manuscript family tree going back several hundred years and I too have traced the lineage back to William the Conqueror and beyond. Naturally, I am keen to talk to anyone who therefore comes down from Mrs Caldwell and knows about her illuminated family tree.
Anyone who can help should contact me at dpjphillips(a)yahoo.co.uk
