Thanks for working on this project.

Hello,
I am looking for any information on my great grandmother's sisters Bessie
Belle and Lillian CALDWELL. Bessie was born in 1897 and Lillian was born
1901. I believe they were born in Arlington, Vermont. They were daughters
of Frederick J. CALDWELL and Mary E. BEVIS.
Bessie married 1st John HOEFFER. They had 2 sons Robert and John, Jr.
After they divorced John Hoeffer went back to Germany. Bessie married 2nd
Charles KING. They had the following children Dorothy, Harold, Shirley,
Ethel, and Raymond. I have no dates for these children. Bessie's son
Robert from her 1st marriage died in an auto accident in 1962. He is buried
in Argyle, NY. Her son John, Jr. died suddenly at home in 1943 and is
buried in Woodlands Cemetery, Cambridge, NY. Lillian died in 1981 and is
buried in Woodlands Cemetery also.
Lillian married 1st an Alfred GRANT. They had a daughter named Betty Jane
GRANT. Betty Jane was last heard of living somewhere in Tennesse. Lillian
married 2nd Sam McAFEE. I do not know if they had any children. They
resided in Brockton, MA. Lillian died suddenly at home in 1967 and is
buried in Brockton, MA.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks in advance.

Dear Barbara: Sorry about the crash! BUMMER!
My 4Ggrandfather was John CALDWELL b. 1750 VA (Cub Creek line) d. 1829
Adair Co. KY; m. Dicey MANN b. 1753 d. 1785. They mariried in VA and later
lived in Green/Adair Co. KY. I descend through their son, Beverly CALDWELL , b.
1779 VA, d. 1857 Green/Adair Co. KY and married Phoebe Ann HATCHER. A daughter
of these latter two, Nancy Hatcher CALDWELL (who married Nathan PENICK), was
the mother of my Ggrandfather, Isaac Newton PENICK. Both Nancy Hatcher
CALDWELL and Isaac Newton PENICK are buried in our family PENICK/CABELL cemetery on
the homeplace in Green Co. KY, where succeeding generations were born, down
to and including me. My father sold that homeplace six years ago just before
he died of cancer.
Back to John CALDWELL 1750-1829: The info I have to date (unproven)
shows his parents as David CALDWELL (b. Abt 1700, m. Mary DUDGEON). David's
parents were John CALDWELL (b. Abt 1680 Derry Co. IRELAND, d. 1750 VA) and
Margaret PHILLIPS (b. IRELAND Abt 1685, D. Bef 1750 VA).
If you have any information on this line or these particular persons, I
would greatly appreciate hearing from you.
Thank you.

Believe the Elijah Caldwell you are looking for is the son of William Monroe Caldwell and Altamira Brown Caldwell. They are both burried in Old Johnsonville Cemetery as is a son Ransom Caldwell who was shot by a Sheriff in Byars in 1906 while they were celebrating the 4th of July. I can obtain a picture of William Monroe and some of the children. I cannot remember if Elija was in them or not.
My mother was a SC Caldwell who married a MS Caldwell.
Mother's Caldwell family originally settled in Fairfield County, SC in 1788
and moved up into Chester County, SC. Mother once remarked that when she
left Chester County in 1929 to go to nursing training that she was the first
person to escape.
There could be a connection to an Alabama line back in the early 1800s'.
Father's Caldwell family originally settled in Lawrence County, MS about
1810 or 1920. By 1840 they were down on the gulf coast. After the Civil War
one branch stayed in what is now Hancock County, MS. Another branch stayed
in what is now western Harrison County, MS and eastern Jackson County, MS.
The 3rd line moved up in to middle MS.
I have a lot of information on both the SC and MS lines. If anyone has
connections to these families, I would love to hear from them.

Hi There,
A lot of us researching the Caldwell line find ourselfs running into brick
Walls. I am experie ncing a similar brick Wall Maybe some of this will help
you, maybe not. Main reason for replying is your memtion of William, of
Russelville, Ky. and of course, that you are trying as I am of tieing your Caldwells to
the Cub Creek Caldwells.
One of my Uncles was a Thomas Rhae Caldwell, born 1903 in Russelville, Ky.
HIs father was a William Caldwell, mother a Johnson, both born in Ky. I am
having a rather difficult time trying to trace this referred William back in time
to see if somehow he could be related to the Cub Creek, Va. Caldwells.
By the way, In looking back through my records in respect to the Caldwells ,
I do find a email from you to me dated 5/9/ 03 talking about Samual Caldwell
who married a Ann Balch. According to you, Samual, was a son of Robert who
married Mary Logan in Va. Robert being the son of John the founder of the Cub
Greek Caldwell settlement. My understanding is that descendants of Robert and Mary
Logan Caldwell made their way into Ky and resetlled there.JUst how many and
who seems to be the lack of information that sets up the brick walls.
I did find two Caldwell families living in thDistrict 3 of Boyle County, Ky.
at the time of the 1880 Census.I suspect that they were brothers. Father was
born In Va.I assume that this was Robert, the son of John Caldwell, the
founder. Their mother was born in Ky. and I assume that this was Mary Logan. THe one f
amily was that of Robert Caldwell, listed as a preacher, HIs wife was Lucy
and at that time, they had nine children, ( none named Samuel )
The second family was that of a Logan Caldwell, married to a Ellen Caldwell.
He was listed as a farmer. They had , at the time, seven children. One of whom
being a William, age 24 and a Deputy Sheriff.
I was hoping that This William could be the father of my Thomas Caldwell, but
have not made much progress in researchin that. My wife passed on close to a
year ago and Ihave sort of put my family research activity on a back burner
for a while. Hope to get back to it soon.
Take care and good luck in your research. Feel sure that I have not really
help you by this e/mail, but one other suggestion. You may want to contact a Judy
Lyne, President of the Logan Co. Ky. Genealogical Society, P.O. Box 853,
Russellville, KY. 42276-0853. THey apparently have much information on the County
Court Officials and may be able to give you some insight on your Samual.
Hopefully ,we can keep in touch.
