There is quite abit of time between the last 2 which makes me think that
Wilson might be from another mother. This info is suject to correction.
I do not have any dates for Sarah his other wife.
I do have a copy of his will. Even though he was born in TN, he spent
several years in Hempstead Co., AR. Most of his family was born and raised
there. For some strange reason he decided as an old man to go to KY to die.
He was there about a year when he did die. He made out a will and then
remembered he forgot to put a slave girl in the will. He could not write
his name but put an X with 2 people to witness to both the will and the
addendum.

Hi Jane,
I was not out long as we had a terrible hail storm. What I have on this
family is:
Andrew Jackson Caldwell, nothing other than what you had other than I had a
note the family came from Scotland.
I had he married Sarah #2 wife, who had been married before to a Ragsdale
about 1832, that would make all the children belong to the first wife,
according to their birth dates. However I only have 12 children listed.
If you can send me the information you have on the children - I will compare
to mine and let you know of any additional information I have on them.
Thanks you,
Flo in Texas

I am looking for information on a Lafayette Caldwell that may have lived in Gaston or Lincoln County, NC. He is given as the father of James C. Grier on his marriage license in Nov. 1880. And was deceased at that time. Any info would be great.

I have not found that the name Pink or Pinkney in my early Caldwell family names, but the oldest daughter of Jesse F. Caldwell was Georgia Ann Caldwell who married a Collins. Georgia named a son Pink or Pinkie Collins. It is such an unusual name and I often wondered where the name came from.

My GGGrandfather was Joshua Joseph Caldwell (the first two names are frequently reversed on census records). He was born in 1837 in Mecklenburg, NC. He married Drusilla Josephine Kelly, born 1841 in Union County, NC/SC (Not sure which)
They are on the 1860 Mecklenburg, NC census:
Joshua Caldwell - 23 (b.NC) works in wood factory
Josephine - 21 (b.NC)
John S. - 1 (b.NC)
1870 Mecklenburg, NC census
Joshua Caldwell - 33 (b.SC) house carpenter
Josephine - 28 (b.SC)
John - 11 (b.NC)
Maggie - 8 (b.NC)
Charlie - 4 (b.NC)
1880 Spartanburg Co., SC (Magnolia Street)
Joseph J. Caldwell - 43 (b.SC) carpenter
Josephine - 39 (b.NC)
Maggie - 18 (b.NC)
Edgar - 6 (b. SC)
Annie - 3 (b.SC)
1900 Darlington Co, SC (S, of Broad St. E. of C&D Railroad Depot)
Joseph J. Caldwell - dob - 8/1837, age 62 (b, NC ) machinist
Drucilla - dob - 12/1841, age 58 (b.NC) 7 children, 4 living
France - daughter - dob -5/1879 (b.SC
Drusilla died Sept 26, 1900 and is buried in Darlington.
Joseph J. died March 28, 1916 in Morgan Township, Cherokee Co., SC
The information listed on his Death Certificate list his name as John J. Caldwell, born Aug. 21, 1837 in Gaston N.C.. Occupation was shown as farmer. It also shows him as being married? Mother and Father are listed as Don't know. He is buried in the Mountain View Cemetery with just the initials J.J. on the marker. The information was provided by his son William E. Caldwell of Dillon, S.C.
The Obit for William E. listed his father as John Josiah and stated he served in the War Between the States and fought for the confederacy. I have not been able to locate any thing on that.
On the 1910 census for Morgan Township, Cherokee Co. there is a James J. Caldwell, age 72 with wife Bessie, married 3 years.
On the 1920 census she is listed as a widow in the house of Landrum B. Blanton in Limestone Twp.
As you can see it is very confusing. If anyone has any information on this family or can be of assistance I would greatly appreciate it. Unfortunately I don't live there, but I do make occasional trips through that area.

Nathan Ellington Caldwell was born July 11, 1815 in Russell County, VA, the son of Andrew and Jerusha Ellington Caldwell. He went to Clark (later Coles) Co. IL with his parents, (Andrew was one of the petitioners to form Coles County out of Clark County) where he helped to found a tannery on the banks of the Wabash river near Darwin. He returned to Virginia to marry Sarah Fickle. They returned to Illinois. Nathan died December 19, 1857 in Clark Co., IL. Do not have a list of his children, but Susan Francis (Nathan had a sister named Francis) baptized 1854, and Mary, born 1857, appear in records of a Rev. Chapman published in Feb. 1946 issue of DAR magazine.
This information is from research of my first cousin by marriage once removed, Mary Soutar Caldwell. Nathan Caldwell was my great-great uncle, and the oldest brother of my great-grandfather, Henry Dickenson (Dickerson in some records) Caldwell, born 1825 in Russell Co., VA, and the son of my gg grandfather, Andrew Caldwell, born March 11, 1794 in Russell, Co. VA. We think Andrew was the son of William and Rebekah LNU Caldwell, but we are not sure. Do you know?
I would be interested in whether you are connected to this line, and what other information you may have about the family.

Does the name Pink or Pinkney C. Caldwell sound familiar? We have been told he was a buffalo hunter at one time. He was born between 1850-1860 and died in Texas in 1880. We have been told that there is Cherokee heritage in the family, but not sure if it is from this branch. Any info would be appreciated.
