My great grandmother, Elizabeth Rebecca Caldwell (b: January 18, 1862) died on March 25, 1898. Because she died before birth certificates, is has been tough to find the reason she died. Is there a Catawba County, North Carolina, Caldwell descendant out there who might know why she died at the age of 36? Thanks!

I have recently acquired the Marriage Books for Catawba County, North Carolina. These books cover marriages during the years 1842 - 1900. There was quite a concentration of CALDWELLS in this area during this time period.
If anyone is interested in a marriage lookup, please provide the FIRST & LAST NAME of BRIDE & GROOM, if possible. If you know the DATE &/OR YEAR, that would be helpful.
The book is indexed by last names of the groom. Grooms are quickest and easiest to find. Brides can be found, this just takes a little longer.

Dear List members, please try to post queries at least once a month to have a
bit more activity on the list and to see if you can make some headway on a
family brick wall. I suggest posting the full names, dates of births,
marriages, deaths or any important events for your CALDWELL ancestors.
Do you have some new family information to share with the rest of us? Please
use the list for this. If you have a family webpage on your CALDWELL lines,
please post this also.
All of us want results to our queries. Queries are placed in genealogical
publications, internet genealogical news lists, and world wide web homepages.
All these are produced with the expectation of receiving replies that contain
all the information our notebooks [or computer programs] will hold. However,
if the query is weak, confusing, unclear or asks for too much information it
is likely to provide exercise only for the delete finger of those who read
the query.
A query should focus on one or two surnames. Once contact is made with
someone researching in the same area additional information may be solicited.
Essential information to anything more than a "pure chance" strike: 1) submit
as complete a name as possible; 2) submit as accurate a time frame as
possible; and, 3) submit as good a location as possible.
Several short, specific queries are preferred over a long, involved inquiry.
This should elicit better and faster results.
The subject line of your query should include the surname in all CAPITAL
letters, the country and/or state abbreviation to attract the attention of
the recipient(s).
Be courteous; use a salutation and closing to your query, as well as a full
name. Some people object to the use of just nicknames or "handles". The less
your query looks and feels like a "post-a-note" the better the response
should be.
"Post-a-Note" type queries when answered often elicit "flat-out" statements.
Do not "assume" these are negative statements. It is difficult to identify
the emotion behind the written word. That which seems "short" or
"uncomplimentary" may just be a "hurried" statement without any negative
intent.

Hazel Virginia ROE born about 1905 Married a Richard ? Caldwell in early
1920's
We called him Uncle Dick, so don't know if this is right or not. She lived
in Norton County KS near Norcatur. Have been unable to locate where and
exactly when married. They lived in Modena Utah in the 30's and 40's and he
was a track walker for he Union Pacific Railroad. They Move to San
Berdindino CA in late 40's.
She died in late 1900's. he died in 1950's. children Gilbert, now living in
CA, Beryl deceased and Claire, (Male) whereabouts unknown.
I hate to repeat my previous query, but I neglected to add two bits of
information that might be of help! Mattie's father (according to census
information) was born in Tennessee; her mother was born in Alabama; Mattie
was also born in Alabama.
Also, I have searched for a marriage record for Mattie's parents.
===============================================
(my earlier query)
I have been searching the census records for CALDWELLs, CALWELLs,
COLDWELLs, COLWELLs, CAULDWELLs and COULDWELLs who were in Alabama in 1848
were in Texas before November of 1870.
My search for Martha Jane "Mattie" CALDWELL has been unsuccessful to
this point. She was b. 1848 Alabama , m. November, 1870 in Hopkins County,
Texas, lived her married life on a farm that was originally in Titus County,
but was later in Franklin County, Texas.
So I am asking for help on ANY variant of the name CALDWELL who made a
trek that started in Alabama in or after 1848 and ended in Texas before
November, 1870. I doubt that Mattie's husband (William B. SPARKS)went
back to Alabama
and met her there- surely they'd have married before traveling to Texas! Her
mother's maiden is reported to have been Ruth "GREENWOOD", but I accept that
whoever gave that information on Mattie's death record did not remember
accurately- this same person did not know Mattie's father's Given Name. It
might even be possible that Mattie's mother had remarried and had acquired
the name GREENWOOD after being married to Mr. CALDWELL. Since Mattie named
her first daughter Mary Ruth, I believe the "Ruth" part is accurate.
Help would be appreciated greatly. I go over and over census films
from both Alabama and Texas to no avail. Perhaps they were in Arkansas,
Tennessee, Mississippi, etc. in the interim.

Alexander CALDWELL's sons Robert, William and John settled in Campbell Co KY, having moved there from"old" Frederick Co VA - Berkeley Co (W) VA in the late 1700s. Alexander may have had a brother Andrew, also of the Frederick-Berkely Co area. They were closely allied with the GOSNEY and COLVIN families. Although names repeat among the families, I suspect that Alexander's father may be Robert CALDWELL of Chester Co PA who died in 1767, naming these sons in his will: John, William, Robert, and Alexander. Any comments? Thanks.>>

There are quite a few fairly new researchers on our list. This is just a

The following article is from Eastman's Online Genealogy Newsletter and is
copyright 2002 by Richard W. Eastman. It is re-published here with the
permission of the author.
- An Old Genealogy Scam Reappears
There is a Web site that sends out unsolicited e-mails offering to give you
access to the world's largest genealogy database for only $44.95. At first,
that might sound like a good deal. However, the e-mails don't mention the
source of this "world's largest" genealogy database. It is the Internet and
is free to everyone -- except for the gullible folks who fall for these
e-mails.
What the e-mails do not tell you is that your money only buys you access to
a list of links. These links on the Web site present the other sites inside
HTML frames, making it look like the other sites are a part of original
site's "service." They do this without telling you that the contents are
not created by them, but actually are the intellectual property of the
originators.
FamilyDiscovery.com was one source of these misleading e-mails. The site
was in business for a year or so and gained notoriety within the genealogy
community. Their Web site disappeared recently, apparently being shut down
by the Internet service provider that hosted the online "service" after
complaints by many users. However, a new Web site has recently appeared,
operating a site that looks like FamilyDiscovery.com but under a different
name.
It appears that the owner of the new Web site is the same person who
owned the earlier one. The new Web site is Genealogy-Developments.com.
The new Web site proclaims that you can "Search Over 23 Billion Genealogy
Records Right From This Website." That claim is absolutely correct. Of
course, you can search the same 23 billion records without going to that
Web site and without paying $44.95.
If you read the fine print at
http://www.genealogy-developments.com/faqs.html , you will note that it
says, "We do not offer access to a database of records but we do offer the
ability to search billions of online records spanned across the Internet."
The reality is that you can find all those links, and more, elsewhere on
the Web. I suspect that most of them are available on Cyndi's List at
http://www.cyndislist.com .
Of course, Cyndi's List is free of charge.
There are a couple of "watchdog sites" that watch for Web sites like
FamilyDiscovery.com and Genealogy-Developments.com. The International
Blacksheep Society of Genealogists maintains a "Genealogy Hall of Shame"
at: http://blacksheep.rootsweb.com/familydiscovery.htm . The Watchdog
Committee maintains the "Genealogical Web Site Watchdog" at:
http://www.ancestordetective.com/watchdog.htm .
You might also want to
check Cyndi's List at: http://www.cyndislist.com/myths.htm#Consumer . If
you ever have a question about an online genealogy "service," I'd suggest
that you check these sites before spending any money.
You can also check some of my past articles about genealogy scams, both
online and off, at:

I am seeking some information on what to do. I just received three certificates of baptism from a church in Brooklyn
Two of the certificate are ok. Regina Caldwell and Raymond caldwell children of Joseph Caldwell ands Annie Temple.
Regina was born 1898, Raynond born 1897. The third certificate reads Teresa Caldwell or Cauldwell child of Joseph Caldwell
and Annie Termple born 1896. I called the church and got nowhere. How do I found out if Teresa is of my caldwell line.
The same priest baptized them all. ANY SUGGESTIONS on how to go about this. I know in 1898 they lived at 172 park ave. bklyn, ny
Any help would be appreciated. Mabe be Teresa is my caldwell and died as an infant, I do not know.

I just received some books from the Catawba County Genealogical Society. Listed on Page 240 of the 1870 Catawaba County Census is the Catawba Mortality Schedule. Here I found the following information on Henderson Caldwell, my g-g grandfather. I am posting in case anyone else needs this information for their records.
Mountain Creek Township:
226 Caldwell, Henderson 36 M W Md NC November Farmer Consumption
I guess this is telling us that Henderson was 36 years old at the time of his death, he was a white male, married, NC must stand for North Carolina, passed away in
November, his occupation was a Farmer, and he died of Consumption. I do not know what the significance is of the #226 next to his name.
According to my Taber's Medical Guide, "Consumption" meant "wasting away", probably due to some unknown illness. It could also indicate "tuberculosis".
I have still not found out how Elizabeth Rebecca Caldwell (Henderson's daughter& my g-grandmother) died (1898). If anyone has access to that information, please let me know.

only then should you consider opening one ------SCAN it first!
This is being forwarded by me and was in the Rootsweb Review:
KLEZ WORM WIGGLES ACROSS THE NET. No, RootsWeb.com is not sending

unless you have confirmed with the sender that she or he did indeed send
it to you for a reason. Do not assume that the attachment came from
where it says -- these sophisticated worms are able to forge addresses
and they are fooling lots of people. Some even claim to be "worm removal

The Klez worm has been able to spread because of a security
